Het grootste deel van het Arubaanse wegennet loopt langs de westkust, waar de meeste plaatsen en hotelcomplexen liggen. De wegen zijn van redelijke tot goede kwaliteit; onverharde wegen komen slechts hier en daar voor. Alleen in het Nationale Park Arikok zou een terreinwagen handig kunnen zijn, maar de meeste bezoekers maken gebruik van een normale auto of een mini-jeep.

De officiële talen zijn Nederlands en Papiaments (dit is een Creoolse taal gebaseerd op Portugees met sterke invloeden van het Spaans, Engels, Nederlands en Afrikaanse talen). Op Aruba wordt een eigen spelling van het Papiaments gebruikt, die afwijkt van de spelling die Curaçao en Bonaire hanteren. Bij de volkstelling van 2000 was de meest gesproken thuistaal voor 69,4% van de bevolking Papiaments, voor 13,2% Spaans, voor 8,1% Engels en voor 6,1% Nederlands.

De Arubanen hebben een bonte mengeling van voorouders. Het is aan veel Arubanen duidelijk te zien dat ze afstammen van de indianen. Maar er zijn ook duidelijke Nederlandse en Spaanse invloeden aanwezig. De oorspronkelijke indiaanse bevolking werden door de Spaanse veroveraars van het eiland weggevoerd. Later zijn er vanuit Venezuela en Colombia andere indianen gekomen.
