Gardening as metaphor from my coastal Southern California community garden a gardening blog. Thursday, May 27, 2010. Boysenberries in Southern California. David Karp writes about boysenberries in. Today's LA Times, providing probably the best background I've come across on this berry so far. I hadn't realized how precious they are since they are rare to find and not widely cultivated. I also didn't know they are distinctly California bred plants. My berries are peaking in my garden, already! Going back o...

http://arugulatoo.blogspot.com/2012/05/ode-to-most-pernicious-false-garlic.html
Gardening as metaphor from my coastal Southern California community garden a gardening blog. Thursday, May 31, 2012. Ode to the most pernicious false garlic. When I first started with my community garden plot, I had no idea I would meet a most pernicious plant. The Latin name for false garlic is Nothoscordum sp. I have not figured the species name, and I've seen gracile, inodorum, borbonicum Kunth. I see they have been recently moved to the Amaryllidaceae. Weeding false garlic requires tools, good eyesig...

Gardening as metaphor from my coastal Southern California community garden a gardening blog. Tuesday, July 4, 2017. The tomato plants formed their own jungle biome. But then the pattypan squash plant has come along quite well in the last week and may dominate everything. I have lettuce and arugula on the edge. Clearly, I wasn’t going to be keeping up with it anyway, so while I’ll miss the fun in participating, I also completely understand that life sometimes gets in the way. Apple and Parsnip Soup. Inspired by the The Kitchn. Add the broth or ...
