Chasing The Vase: Semi-Finals Day Is (Almost) Here
http://thefavase.blogspot.com/2009/03/semi-finals-day-is-almost-here.html
The FA Vase Season 2008-09. Friday, 27 March 2009. Semi-Finals Day Is (Almost) Here. Anxious and excited in equal measure. Nothing will be decided tomorrow, as 2 legs need to be negotiated, but even so.Wembley is a matter of 180 minutes away. Deep breaths all round. 1 The G.N.E. Bitter. Thanks to Mandy at the Star Inn for the photo above. 2 The Glossop View. 3 The Chalfont View. 4 The 'W' Word. Can the pressure be simply too much? As Paul Gascoigne once said: "I don't make predictions and I never will".

Chasing The Vase: Game 6: Arundel 1, Cogenhoe United 4
http://thefavase.blogspot.com/2008/12/game-6-arundel-1-cogenhoe-united-4.html
The FA Vase Season 2008-09. Monday, 8 December 2008. Game 6: Arundel 1, Cogenhoe United 4. Third Round Proper Saturday 6th December 2008. Venue: Mill Road, Arundel, Sussex. Distance travelled: 103 miles. Which I commend you all to buy. And before you ask, no, I am not on commission! There is a link to Terry's photos from Saturday's tie at the end of this post. If his first goal was good, Frost's second goal was even better. Another long ball found Frost on the edge of the Mullets penalty area; with a...

Chasing The Vase: You'll Win Nothing With Kids
http://thefavase.blogspot.com/2009/04/youll-win-nothing-with-kids.html
The FA Vase Season 2008-09. Friday, 24 April 2009. You'll Win Nothing With Kids. I’ve recently finished the excellent book by Jim White, “You’ll Win Nothing With Kids” a must-read for any parent who has a son or daughter playing junior football. I was given the book as a present and by total coincidence started to read it just as my own son signed up for Chertsey Town Under 9s. The timing could not have been any more apt. Who decides which are the ‘better’ players? This kind of selection process is a sta...

Chasing The Vase: Game 8: Bitton AFC 0, Glossop North End 2
http://thefavase.blogspot.com/2009/02/game-8-bitton-afc-0-glossop-north-end-2.html
The FA Vase Season 2008-09. Sunday, 15 February 2009. Game 8: Bitton AFC 0, Glossop North End 2. Fifth Round Proper Saturday 14th February 2009. Venue: The Recreation Ground, Bitton, Gloucestershire. Distance travelled: 218 miles. The second half was as good as the first. Bitton enjoyed far more possession and the ante was upped with a number of hard, uncompromising tackles. Both sets of players really wanted this, and the physically bruising encounter at times looked as if it might boil over; cr...The p...

Grounds for concern...: Arundel
http://hoppysnaps.blogspot.com/2011/06/arundel.html
You may think it weird for someone to take photos of sportsgrounds, but I love it! An occasional view of a few I've seen. "I like visiting grounds; I'm NOT a groundhopper! Who am I trying to kid! Friday, 3 June 2011. Compete in th Sussex County League. Division One and have probably one of the best backdrops in non-league football in the south-east, as you shall see, although my snaps don't do it justice, taken on my humble 'digital box brownie'! The ground is across this car park, over a small bridge.

Chasing The Vase: Game 12: Glossop North End 0, Whitley Bay 2
http://thefavase.blogspot.com/2009/05/game-12-glossop-north-end-0-whitley-bay.html
The FA Vase Season 2008-09. Tuesday, 12 May 2009. Game 12: Glossop North End 0, Whitley Bay 2. The FA Carlsberg Vase Final Sunday 10th May 2009. Distance travelled: 58 miles. Glossop really needed an early break in the second half to get back into the match, but it was Whitley Bay who emerged the more determined. By now it was evident just how strong the Whitley Bay defence were, particularly their centre-half pairing, who coped with everything thrown at them. 2-0 almost became 3-0 within a few m...Subsc...

Chasing The Vase: Game 5: Banstead Atheltic 1, Arundel 2 (aet)
http://thefavase.blogspot.com/2008/11/game-5-banstead-atheltic-1-arundel-2.html
The FA Vase Season 2008-09. Tuesday, 18 November 2008. Game 5: Banstead Atheltic 1, Arundel 2 (aet). Second Round Proper Saturday 15th November 2008. Venue: Merland Rise, Tadworth, Surrey. Distance travelled: 49 miles. Perhaps Arundel took their collective feet of the gas? Possibly the Banstead players had found some self-belief? One thing is for sure; I'm already looking forward to the Third Round Proper in December and wherever the draw takes me, I'll certainly be there. You can bet on it.

Chasing The Vase: Game 2: Chertsey Town 3, Oakwood 2

The FA Vase Season 2008-09. Friday, 12 September 2008. Game 2: Chertsey Town 3, Oakwood 2. First Round Qualifying Replay Tuesday 9th September 2008. Venue: Alwyns Lane, Chertsey, Surrey. Distance travelled: a stone's throw. Despite Brooker's performance, Chertsey were still making a number of unforced errors and ten minutes before the interval Oakwood were back in front. McNab bagged his second with a guided header following a deep cross from Gary Bidwell. In the end, Chertsey hung on to claim victory...

Chasing The Vase: Game 3: Hassocks 2, Chertsey Town 3 (aet)
http://thefavase.blogspot.com/2008/09/game-3-hassocks-2-chertsey-town-3.html
The FA Vase Season 2008-09. Sunday, 21 September 2008. Game 3: Hassocks 2, Chertsey Town 3 (aet). Second Round Qualifying Saturday 20th September 2008. Venue: The Beacon, Hassocks, Sussex. Distance travelled: 103 miles. Was Day's reaction and I couldn't disagree. Brooker's numerous efforts, including several one-on-ones with the keeper, either whistled past the post, grazed the bar or drifted agonisingly wide. My guess is that he probably knew before half-time it just wasn't going to be his day. 03] Hass...
