From My Mother to Me. A 99th blog post - thoughts and reminiscing. Friday, 14 August 2015. It's my blog-aversary. Actually it's not really, this blog began two years ago, in April, But this is my 99th post, and that's enough of an excuse to pause and reflect. As it Seams: December 2014

http://www.as-it-seams.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

From My Mother to Me. Sewing Karma - a Louisa for another little girl, and for Africa. Sunday, 28 December 2014. Do you ever sew the same dress more twice? I mean EXACTLY the same dress? For me it never happens. There's just too many gorgeous fabrics and sewing patterns - and too little time. And I NEVER sew for anyone else - my scrappy seams are for my eyes only. But for this dress, and for a special reason, I made an exception. But for the first time, ever I accepted 'a commission.'. I like to sew wond...

Making and Living: January 2015

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 27, 2015. It's been so long since I have posted anything here, I have been too busy with work, house building and family life. But, I have had some time here and there to sew. I have had a lot of fun recently making all sorts of things from dresses, skirts to a baby sleeping bag and hot-water-bottle covers (posts to follow). Here are the skirts I made. I used a really good free patten from StraightGrain. The fabric in the photo above is. The third skirt I made was for the girls cousin's ...

Making and Living: July 2013

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 12, 2013. So I abandoned the pattern and tried to work it out on my own. I got there in the end but it was not what I really wanted. The waistband was too big and the skirt kept falling down. I decided to take it apart and started again. This time I used big red elastic for the waistband and just sewed on the fabric. It was very easy and it looks really nice. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Follow Making and Living by Email. Visit Rowan's profile on Pinterest. Winter in a Yurt.

Making and Living: September 2013

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 16, 2013. It's that time of year again when there is an abundance of fruit, berries and vegetables. I have been very busy making jams and preserves with everything and anything I can find. We went berry picking in the forest the other day and came back with a kilo of blueberries and a kilo of blackberries. It is a joy to be able to go for a walk and come back with such delights. I made more blueberry jam, and I picked some raspberries to go with blackberries and made a very.

Making and Living: Fabric and Pillows

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2014/01/fabric-and-pillows.html

Thursday, January 30, 2014. So I was happy to know I didn't need to buy so much there and then. I bought two pieces of fabric, one has retro telephones and flowers and the other has everything from hearts, birds, flowers to windmills and hot air balloons. But I really fell in love with this fabric because it has a little horse on it that looks just. Like a Scandinavian wooden toy horse the girls have. I used some green edging for around the opening and then sewed on little button to keep it closed. Spieg...

Making and Living: Orange Marmalade

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2014/03/orange-marmalade.html

Tuesday, March 25, 2014. A few weeks ago we got. A box of Organic Oranges from a friend. I was very happy with them and made lots of fresh orange juice for the girls. I thought about making. With the peel but then I had a better idea to make Orange Marmalade. I have made it before with a friend but it turned out slightly too sour and didn’t really stiffen. So the aim this time was to make it a bit sweeter and to try and get it to set. 1 kilo of good quality oranges. Definitely turned out better than last...

Making and Living: May 2014

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 10, 2014. For the pastry;. First make the pastry by mixing the butter and sugar. Until smooth, then add the flour and egg yokes. Mix. Well but not for too long, it might be easier to do this with your hands. Make a ball from the pastry and put it in the fridge for later. For the filling;. 150g maple syrup (or syrup of choice). 100g halved pecans for on top. Melt the chocolate and the butter together and let it cool for a bit. Mix the eggs. Links to this post. Making and Living: March 2013

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 30, 2013. This truly feels like a never ending winter. Its been so cold for so long now, and in the yurt it has been quite cold in the mornings. We are all absolutely looking forward to some warmer weather. Today I made a little spring table in the hope that it might inspire the spring to come. The other day the girls and I each painted one of our chickens eggs to hang on the spring table. We had a lot of fun and they brighten up our cold mornings. Links to this post. Things I have made.

8211;not your momma's goulash–. July 26, 2016. My good friend Taylor. UM… NO FRIEND. JUST NO. She gave me instructions to make whatever I wanted (sweet! And I texted her pictures of cozy organic knit fabrics. She picked one instantly, and I got to work like 3 months later and 3 days before the baby’s due date. Because SUMMER WITH 3 KIDS, that’s why. I knew right away I’d be making Rachel’s newborn gown pattern. The fabric is organic interlock knit by Birch. And, I think it’s super cute like that. I can&#...
