A green sailor teams up with a neglected boat to achieve his dream of learning to sail. May 18, 2015. Middot; by danharding824. Middot; in Uncategorized. Middot; 1 Comment. Narragansett Bay was exploding with activity. The sound of blaring horns and the Star Spangled Banner provided the soundtrack to which hundreds of boats of all shapes and sizes crisscrossed one another at high speeds. I’ve seen this level of nautical pandemonium before but it’s typically reserved for the fourth of July. Or fumbling wi...

A green sailor teams up with a neglected boat to achieve his dream of learning to sail. For those of you who aren’t my mom and grandma, thanks for stumbling onto this blog. Please allow me to tell you a little about myself and the series of stories you have just found. I grew up spending every summer aboard my family’s boat, a 33-foot Egg Harbor, which instilled in me a love for being on the water. As a journalist, I have been fortunate enough to be published in Newsday. Boating Times Long Island. This b...

Motorcycles on the streets, people wearing shorts, and the snowbanks, now all black and gnarly, poured into storm drains. In a post from last year, I listed some of the items that were projects for over the winter to get. Hard time keeping the weather out of here. The Ones Who Came Before →. February 25, 2012 · 11:44 pm. Ladies and Gentlemen… THE DOORS! I remember when Bob Upshon, marine surveyor, was giving Indy the once over, he held one of the companionway hatch doors in his hands, gave it a bit of a flex, and said, “You won’t get much time out of this guy.”. So Bob was right, the condition of the doors were on the to do list. Since the end pieces needed to be replaced I had to sniff out a source of teak. I’m going to reacquaint you with our precious ...I found...

Making Companionway Drop Boards. Replacing the Windows →. May 5, 2015 · 1:05 pm. Replacing the Cabin Sole. The first steps down into the cabin of. And artfully carried out here. Getting the old sole out was pretty simple, most of the screws keeping it down came out easily. Some of the screws were stripped, but luckily the wood surrounding them was rotten enough to pull it out and then take the screw out with vise grips. Pretty squishy in spots. Marine Plywood pieces cut out. Poplar inserted and glued, an...

A-sailing i shall go. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Wadi Rum, Jordan: Fire and Friendship (May 5th). May 6, 2009. Ever so seldom, one crosses the path of a perfect stranger. The gentleman asked for my afternoon’s company; a check of the clock, I had six hours to hand. I accepted his warm invitation. His car arrived to a stop, purposefully, beckoning me away from wandering Arabian eyes. I stepped in and felt a sudden pang for road trips past, forgone; not this one, no. The Amman-Aqaba highway spirals...

Saturday, February 9, 2013. A few months have passed since the last post and Allegro. Sold last summer . We were in the middle of a trip by RV to ever River on the north end of Vancouver Island when the deal finally went through. It was harrowing because the offer was made and accepted early June and the sale didn't finally happen until almost the end of August. Eve River has bad cell phone service so I was running around on the log sort next to the river to find a good connection. Tuesday, July 12, 2011.

A SAILING STORY | A young couple rescues an old sailboat to chase their dreams.

A young couple rescues an old sailboat to chase their dreams. Cruising the Connecticut Coast. September 29, 2016. September 29, 2016. The week after Labor Day has become my favorite time to go cruising. School is back in session, crowds of tourists have all but returned home, but the weather-if you’re lucky-retains most of its summer warmth. Kicking off a trip in style. If you cruise down the coast, especially in the off season, you should seriously consider stopping in Clinton. And get the breakfast...
