The problem with working full-time is that you aren't off galavanting all the time and seeing cool new things each day. however, i do like to try and capture the little moments.and here are some from february. First big snow since before thanksgiving, really. it's been cold, but quite beautiful when the snow is fresh and clean. Kai's homemade "whiteboard".paper with packing tape (all my packing tape, sigh). he was quite pleased with his invention. Friends and family blogs.

Monday, December 30, 2013. Oops, more jiaoxi (in yilan mountains). Wow, i thought we were done, but when i went back to my photos i realized there was more! We pack in a lot! After the mountain excursion, we stopped at the night market (is it the luodong night market, mei? And we all tried some different foods. Squid, i think. Seaweed wrapped rice (available at 7-11). After eating dinner, we roamed around (for more food :P). Tough guys (and sweet kai). Sweet auntie mei and sweet kai. Even mei showed up!

Saturday, June 21, 2014. Plus the fact that they offered finishers medals for kids really sealed the deal for kai. On our way to the starting point via mrt. The kids/family run started at 5:30pm. it was BLAZING hot. it was also really crowded at the beginning, so we did a lot of walking. SO. HOT. Well the weather has been amazing this weekend and work is letting up a little bit, so i'm starting to get my head cleared a little bit and will try and catch up on some posts (for those of you without facebook! Kai turned 10 a few weeks ago and he opted not to have a party, but instead to have a low-key family celebration with his favorite people and foods. Hmmwhich to open first? Alternates with the boogie board). He also got a nice art set from uncle john.

Last week we had "SLCs," otherwise known as "student led conferences." wasn't really sure what they were at first, or what to expect, but basically it's a like a parent-teacher conference, except the kids tell you what they are doing; the teachers are kind of milling around the classroom (2-3 families are in the classroom at one time). The last time challenge he issued was 6:28, because it was kai's birthday, and that is the time kai was born. isn't that sweet of him? And here ...

In late january mei was going to be in nyc for work, so i thought it would be the perfect opportunity to see both of them, and to take advantage of the fact that hua had and apartment in manhattan, so it would be free lodging! Hua's apartment. so sunny! My memory is so bad i can no longer recall the exact chronology of things if i don't have a picture of it, so i don't remember what we were doing before this (maybe having dinner? And yummy ramen too). And then to the park.

Sunday, November 03, 2013. Never thought i'd hear. Kai say "i want to go to school tomorrow". Which is what he said tonight at bedtime (sunday night! I wasn't sure if he was kidding or not, but when asked he expanded on it "well i get bored at home in the morning anyway, so might as well go to school"so do you like school now? No, it's ok. just like dicken was ok". I'm still in a little disbelief, but very happy to hear it. Decorating his white kite. nice bold rainbow! Love my 8 year old boy!
