上上星期去了一趟宜蘭太平山避暑，車子路經宜蘭市新月廣場，看到對面民生街與舊城南路口水果攤上有怪東西，馬上路邊停好車，讓老婆下去拍照並買幾根上來。看到老婆和老闆哈啦拍照時，有幾個婆婆媽媽也好奇的圍過來試吃。老闆可能已經被問煩了，索性再這堆怪東西前面掛了個牌子寫「鳳梨蕉」，哈哈～～～就不就是台語的「蓬萊蕉」發音嗎？ 第一次吃他應該超過十年了，當時住在內湖碧山里森之林社區，走出社區必經的碧山公園角落就種有一叢蓬萊蕉。有次全家經過，正好看到一根果實熟透了歪一邊，就把她摘下來看，綠色的皮殼像鱗片班剝落，露出裡面像香蕉的果肉，一般聞著強烈的鳳梨香味。一邊仔細端詳哪邊果肉可以吃，可惜看到有幾隻果實蠅的蛆在裡面鑽啊鑽，只好撿一小小塊嚐嚐味道，好妙啊～～～聞起來鳳梨味，口感卻像熟透的香蕉，難怪會取名為「蓬萊蕉」。 蓬萊蕉的果實就因為這個副作用，讓她香味強烈風味甘美，但卻無法普遍推廣讓大家嘗鮮，就是因為草酸鈣（蓚酸）結晶在作怪。這是普遍存在於天南星科、龍舌蘭科等植物體內的成份，在顯微鏡下. 是怪物、怪異的意思，看那巨大又都是洞的葉子，是不是很奇怪？種名.
