A Season in Panama: El Bale, Veráguas

http://aseasoninpanama.blogspot.com/2013/02/el-bale-veraguas.html

A Season in Panama. Sunday, February 17, 2013. El Bale, Veráguas. The last night I was in El Bale, the other volunteers decided to take me on a hike to the now defunct water tower. It took about 45 minutes to walk up, but the view was well worth it, as you will see below. Even though it hadn't rained for two months, we even saw a rainbow. Evidently up in the cloud forest it was still raining. Path to the water tower. View of El Bale from the water tower. Horses we found along the path. El Bale, Veráguas.

A Season in Panama: Cashews and Other Flora

http://aseasoninpanama.blogspot.com/2012/09/cashews-and-other-flora.html

A Season in Panama. Thursday, September 6, 2012. Cashews and Other Flora. Did you know that the Cashew Tree (Marañon) actually grows both a fruit and a nut? It is really cool how it grows. First there is a flower, then the nut appears and then the fruit grows above the nut. Also, you can't eat "raw" cashews. They are roasted (dry here) to get the shell off. I'm told the shell is toxic, and that the nuts are, too, until they are cooked. The green half-moons are the Cashew nuts. Cashews and Other Flora.

A Season in Panama: Tuna

http://aseasoninpanama.blogspot.com/2012/09/tuna.html

A Season in Panama. Thursday, September 6, 2012. A few weeks ago I went to a seaport that is about 45 minutes away from my home. It was morning and there was a lot of activity as the fishermen were bringing in their overnight catches. The fish were weighed and evaluated. The best ones were to go to the USA. The second class ones were to go to Panama City and the ones that were left would be sold locally. Packing the Fish in Ice for Transport. Taking the Fish to be Evaluated and Weighed.

A Season in Panama: Feliz Navidad

http://aseasoninpanama.blogspot.com/2012/12/feliz-navidad.html

A Season in Panama. Wednesday, December 26, 2012. Well, Christmas in rural Panama just isn´t quite the same as it is in the USA! For example, here is the Christmas tree at the fire department in Las Tablas:. Yep, that's it with the Palm top! Oh, and then there's the weather. No hopes of a white Christmas in this neighborhood, but you could probably fry an egg on the sidewalk if you get hungry! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everybody! Picture Window theme.
