Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is very much relevant and appropriate in large parts all over the world, thanks to over-exploitation of our environment: global warming, de-forestation, polluting and over-use of water sources, lack of ground water recharge options and many more. I had joined the SBI YFI fellowship in the November batch; starting on Nov 3rd, 2014 till Nov 2nd, 2015. Our batch had the initial training at Ahmedabad, in SBI Learning Centre campus and the Aga Khan Rural Support Program – India (AKRSPI), with all 32 fellows. ( I had not imagined that the numbers would go down slowly, though). SBI YFI Fellows with the Traditional Gujarati Family.

Of the myriad jobs that people follow at Vedaranyam to keep their lives kicking, with or without the NGO and all that external support. Tobacco saplings – injurious to health and environment. Open sea and lagoon fishing. Women harvesting their only crop of paddy. Catching white prawns from swamps around their hamlets. Lots and lots of groundnuts….mmm. VEDARANYAM – Just Landed.
