(Not) Just Another Writer: The Fault In Our Stars
http://evadfarkas.blogspot.com/2013/06/the-fault-in-our-stars.html
Not) Just Another Writer. Monday, June 3, 2013. The Fault In Our Stars. Every once in a while a book comes along that hits all the right notes and you cannot bring yourself to put it down until you read the last sentence - and then you start over. Whether it is the tone, the characters, the underlying story itself, or all three, it captivates you from the first word to the last, every time you read it. And for me, such a book is The Fault In Our Stars. And why does she sound like an overachiever? Anyway,...

(Not) Just Another Writer: I am back!
http://evadfarkas.blogspot.com/2013/02/i-am-back.html
Not) Just Another Writer. Wednesday, February 6, 2013. Well, I never physically left (although a few months traveling around the world sounds pretty good right about now) but my mind and heart had been absent from the creative world for a while. I had set my novel-in-progress aside, almost afraid to touch it for some reason I still cannot identify, hardly any reading, and no writing at all. But I turned on my computer last night, opened my writing folder, and there I was! Of course we all have exhaustive...

(Not) Just Another Writer: Out With The Old, In With The New
http://evadfarkas.blogspot.com/2013/01/out-with-old-in-with-new.html
Not) Just Another Writer. Tuesday, January 1, 2013. Out With The Old, In With The New. The golden masks were aglow under the chandeliers, the smiles were genuine and enchanting, and the feet were sashaying to Strauss' Blue Danube. And the company was exceptional, as only family can be. It was New Year's Eve 2006. It was a different life for us, the closing year of a decade of fancy New Year's Eve Balls in old capitals of Europe. Before my child was born, before I switched jobs, before my father passed.

(Not) Just Another Writer: July 2012
http://evadfarkas.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Not) Just Another Writer. Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Rejection Before One Word Is Read. That is my biggest fear. My manuscript will be thrown right on top of the slush pile, without the agent (or, most likely, his assistant) ever having read one word of what took me over two years to write. Yet that is what is most likely to happen to me - and most of us who are "amateurs" and unknown. Is there anything we can do to avoid that? But we must certainly try. Why does the publisher have to read it? Take "until,"...

(Not) Just Another Writer: December 2012
http://evadfarkas.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Not) Just Another Writer. Saturday, December 8, 2012. Does writing affect your mood - or does your mood affect your writing? As I was reading through various blog entries over the last week it struck me, plain and simple, that we as writers become either gloriously miserable or inexplicably chipper as we write, re-write, or try to fit writing into our lives, already crammed to the brim. Which one are you? Is there a group I am missing? What is the biggest impediment to your happy writing? New York, Unite...

A writers' resource blog. Monday, August 19, 2013. How Good is Your Attention Capability? It's Often Key to Good Writing). Anyway, within the categories of brain activity I selected that I want to focus on (problem solving, flexibility, memory, acuity, etc.) is Attention. Which is consistently THE hardest category for me. Of course you can take pictures to help you remember later, but that doesn't have the emotional immediacy of noting the meaning to you in the moment, or the specific feeling that partic...
