A Southern Sleuth: Without Means of Support

http://www.asouthernsleuth.com/2015/02/without-means-of-support.html

Tuesday, February 24, 2015. Without Means of Support. Where would she turn next? Alone and with limited means, Rebecca had to find a way to support herself. Her life had changed drastically in a few short years. It was 1852 in Macon, Georgia and Rebecca Gurganus was widowed and sixty nine years old. If she and her deceased husband, David Gurganus, had children, there is no evidence of such and so, by all appearances, she was truly very alone. A Long Hard Winter, Library of Congress 1893. Beginning in 184...

Monday, January 26, 2015. It has been over a month since my last post. About the Perry family. While I am not going to share all that I found on each family here, I am willing to share with anyone that has an interest. You can contact me using the "Email me" link on the main page. I will say that I feel a little disappointed with what I found, or should I say, what I did not. Map: Federal Census Bureau Map. Mary Ann Ayers Perry, along with her children. A Southern Sleuth: Sticky Fingers

http://www.asouthernsleuth.com/2015/04/sticky-fingers.html

Tuesday, April 7, 2015. As they pulled away, the little hands waved wildly out the car windows while their sweet voices called out "Goodbye Nana, goodbye Papa! As I began the task of restoring order to my house, my tendency to relate everything to genealogy surfaced. I began to think of my ancestors and contemplate their relationships with their children and grandchildren. I thought of the ever important FAN. Club as taught by Elizabeth Shown Mills. William Cohen Brock and Martha (Ganus) with their family.

A Southern Sleuth: The Day Grandpa Hijacked the Car

http://www.asouthernsleuth.com/2015/04/the-day-grandpa-hijacked-car.html

Tuesday, April 14, 2015. The Day Grandpa Hijacked the Car. I have never known anyone who hijacked anything, so when Mary said she remembered the day her grandpa hijacked the car, she had my full attention. A few months ago I decided to round up descendants of John Monroe Ganus in a Facebook group. I am a member of several Facebook family groups and have enjoyed the association. The results of such groups seems to vary, but I was hopeful that this one would prove successful. And so did the online chatter.

160;          And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to the fathers. Malachi 4:6. Monday, July 27, 2015. From Luxury to Necessity. While without a computer for the past several weeks I devoted my time to - what else? There, there, Little Luxury, don't you cry. You'll be a necessity by and by. I began to think about the inventions that were welcomed into homes as luxuries but soon became necessities. Surely it must have been strange to hear the voice of a...

From the Heart: October 2009

Sunday, October 25, 2009. I love the rocks and rills. When we bought our home we were charmed to find that there was a stream flowing along the back edge of the property. We have been working for nearly 3 years to get the stream bank in good condition. It is a work in progress. The first year after we planted grass it looked like this:. The second year we planted wild flowers along the berm:. Our Quaking Aspen and River Birch trees are getting a good start:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Come in and share ...

From the Heart: May 2010

http://muchtraveled.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 28, 2010. Meet me in the gazebo. I have always loved gazebos. They conjure up images of serenity and tranquility that only seem to exist in movies. The movie that comes to mind is The Sound of Music. And that famous scene with Leisl and Rolfe singing You are sixteen, going on seventeen. I never dreamed that I would ever own a gazebo, much less a waterfall! Now we have both, and the only thing lacking is the time to enjoy them! I keep talking about? There is still plenty of work to do. We ...
