Aspie from Maine: January 2015
http://aspiefrommaine.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 30, 2015. Learning to Take the Long View. Learning to Take the Long View. I once asked my dad, in that way that young adults have of trying to revisit their childhoods and make sense of them, why people didn't seem to care as much about my struggles as I thought they should. His response was something along the lines of "You have to look at it objectively and see how many times they did care, not the times they didn't. You have to take the gestalt.". But she didn't know that. Thinking tha...
Aspie from Maine: July 2014
http://aspiefrommaine.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Ramblings from FB on the subject of learning to try to tolerate discomfort instead of trying to always cover it up, change it, make it go away, which is an exhausting endeavor to be doing constantly. Did not expect. So, I am going to go eat dinner now . Tuesday, July 22, 2014. Margie's meetup, overcoming difficulty. How can I make myself handle that stress when I have so much else to deal with? I guess they can . And did. Don't identify with it. It's a trick! I had no conception...
Aspie from Maine: Every Day Miracles - What It Means to Have Hanukkah In Our Hearts
http://aspiefrommaine.blogspot.com/2014/12/every-day-miracles-what-it-means-to.html
Wednesday, December 17, 2014. Every Day Miracles - What It Means to Have Hanukkah In Our Hearts. What do you think of when you think of Hanukkah celebrations? Probably you think of some combination of menorahs, dreidels, and latkes. Get-togethers with family and friends, music, typical holiday celebrations. Light one candle for the pain they endured. When their right to exist was denied. Light one candle for the strength that we need. To never become our own foe. Light one candle for all we believe in.
Aspie from Maine: February 2015

Wednesday, February 4, 2015. The topic for our Aspie group this month is Shame, so I wrote the following on the topic to share with the group. If you look up the definition of shame in the dictionary, it is defined as. It is not necessarily anyone's fault, that we so often feel this sense of shame. When we are embarassed about who we are, we can't feel our sense of connection to others. Shame makes us feel alone and cut off. Feeling shame is not limited to people with Asperger's, but having AS ca...What'...
Aspie from Maine: Connection
http://aspiefrommaine.blogspot.com/2014/12/connection.html
Monday, December 15, 2014. Are you sure you're okay? You seem a little agitated. Are you sure you don't want to go? The well meaning questions. "I'll be fine as soon as I get to talk to people a little," I thought, and every single time, I was. She seemed surprised by how quickly I could go from that agitated to that outgoing, happy and in my element. Hell, I was too. But now it seems so obvious. Feelings of sadness triggered feelings of fear. Feelings of sadness triggered worries of abandonment. Confess...

Life in the Different Lane. The Autism Parent’s Journey. The Best of Teen Autism. Sometimes, as a mom blogger, I get the feeling that my kids somehow tap into the wavelength of a post I’ve written – before I even post it. And then they come to me and totally disprove whatever I’ve written about them. For instance, the night that I wrote “Polite Conversation,”. He started off by running into my office, eyes wide. “Mom! Have you heard of something called ‘home births’? 8220;You mean when I’m 18? My heart a...

Life in the Different Lane. The Autism Parent’s Journey. The Best of Teen Autism. A Boy and His Voice. An unexpected gift. And now, well, you can hear (and see) for yourself. One of the reasons why I hadn’t posted any videos of Nigel before is because I wanted him to tell me when he was ready. I never mentioned it or made any suggestions – I wanted it to be completely his idea. And last week, he posted his first video on You Tube. He filmed himself talking about his new channel. He could not answer.

Tales of an Aspie Freedom Fighter
Tales of an Aspie Freedom Fighter. Friday, May 26, 2006. On Aspies For Freedom. I asked someone who appeared to be an American patriot, what is freedom? This is a question that comes too mind everyone time I hear the word come up in US politics (which is a lot). And I thought that I would ask it this time. Personally I don't think that those that use that word the most have little concept of what it means beyond some golden ideal that is without question or reproach. I, however, think I can answer it.

Aspie from Maine
Sunday, July 9, 2017. Someone gave me the idea of doing a speech based around the theme of being invisible, or not. I've been struggling to find a way to structure it, a way to organize it, ideas to include. Today, though, I think gave me some material. Today, Nate, Rob, Amber and I went to OOB for a couple hours. It took some work to organize and prepare for. But it ended up going quite well. My friends work hard to make me feel visible, and heard, and included. Maybe that is the defin. It was a very in...
