Dreaming Spires: October 2010
http://thedreamingspires.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 29, 2010. York (because Rachel asked.). Last weekend Anthony and I travelled to York for our thrice-yearly accountability day. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Work that I could do. I spent two days last week shadowing a barrister here in London who specializes in corporate insolvency. I came away thinking "This is work I could really enjoy! It'll be interesting to see how the next few years unfold. Tuesday, October 19, 2010. Later, when we took the garden rubbish outside, we discovered a pac...

Dreaming Spires: September 2011
http://thedreamingspires.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 06, 2011. On Saturday, Anthony dug the first potatoes from our garden! We planted them on a whim back in April, and I've been wondering for months whether there was really anything going on under the soil. But finally the plants in one of the pots wilted and it was time to find out. I determined to document the whole process. We soon discovered that the experiment was not a total failure:. But I never imagined it would be so wildly successful:. They cleaned up very nicely:.

Dreaming Spires: Birthday challenges
http://thedreamingspires.blogspot.com/2011/08/birthday-challenges.html
Tuesday, August 16, 2011. A few weeks ago, a friend from church mentioned that she's come up with a list of challenges - things she wants to before she turns 40 in a few months' time. That got me thinking. I'll be turning 30 early next year, so why not come up with a list of 30 challenges to be undertaken over the course of the year in which I turn 30? Here are a few of the ideas I'm contemplating:. Go out for sushi. Visit a new country. Run a 10k (or possibly. Read through the Bible in a year. Ive been ...

Dreaming Spires: Pasta Party
http://thedreamingspires.blogspot.com/2011/01/pasta-party.html
Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Anthony's parents gave us a pasta machine for Christmas, and on Saturday we invited them round to try out the new acquisition. The hardest part was getting the dough through the machine's widest setting:. But after that, the narrower settings were really easy:. The strip of dough grew very long:. Very, very long, in fact. This is just one the three batches:. Once it was as thin as we wanted, we started feeding it through the cutters. This part was so cool:. After all this, we p...

Dreaming Spires: October 2011
http://thedreamingspires.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 21, 2011. Last Friday, Anthony said he had a surprise for me. On Saturday, I had to go to a law training day in central London. I didn't get home until the late afternoon. Look who was waiting for me when I opened the door:. Various names were proposed, but we finally settled on Tumnus, because of his faun-like expression. He looked so pleased when I suggested it, that I knew at once I'd hit upon the right name. Tumnus quickly became fast friends with Jack and Charles. This is Temple Chur...

Dreaming Spires: July 2010
http://thedreamingspires.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Last night I broke the cardinal rule of hosting dinner parties. Not just once either. Twice. And it turned out fine. Great, in fact. For our main course, we had pumpkin and wild rocket risotto, topped with parmesan and toasted pine nuts. (I used the mystery squash. And others I can't remember at the moment. Sunday, July 25, 2010. Life After D.Phil. I haven't taken any time off yet, but life is definitely moving at an easier pace. Here are some highlights from the last week.

Dreaming Spires: February 2011
http://thedreamingspires.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 01, 2011. Good things in. November, December, January. My tradition of monthly lists of good things has rather fizzled out of late. I'm planning to revive it in February. But in the meantime, I wanted to offer highlights from the last three months. When I got back to England, Anthony took me out for a special meal to celebrate the completion of my doctorate. We also decorated our flat for Christmas:. Albert (the little spruce we bought in France) seemed to enjoy all the attention:.

Dreaming Spires: Christmas in August
http://thedreamingspires.blogspot.com/2011/08/christmas-in-august.html
Monday, August 15, 2011. You thought Christmas was 4 months away, didn't you? Well, at our house Christmas came last Friday. Mike and Marian gave us our Christmas present early so that we could enjoy it during the hot months:. It has its own built-in freezer, so you don't have to freeze the bowl before use - perfect for those of us with small kitchen freezers. The ice cream was excellent - the natural heat of the ginger perfectly offset the cold of the ice cream. Add to that flakey.
