August 7, 2015. What I Didn't Know to Ask: The Postpartum Edition. What I did not read a single sentence about was what to expect for my own body once I was done expecting. A few things in particular took me completely by surprise. When you are severely sleep-deprived and your hormones have run amok, surprises are just plain rude. a spoonful of tori: June 2012

http://www.aspoonfuloftori.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

June 9, 2012. It would be easy to read what I've just outlined and feel a sense of depression or despair. Do I mean to say that every human relationship we have will fail us at some point? Disappointments hurt. They make us angry, they frustrate us beyond belief, they leave us with a sense of hopelessness. If I can't make this or that function in the way I think it should, where is the control? How do I fix it so that it works like I want it to? So where is the hope in all of this? June 3, 2012. So I she...

a spoonful of tori: July 2012

http://www.aspoonfuloftori.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

July 23, 2012. What does this new identity mean for my day to day life? For those of you who like practical application, here is a prayer crafted by my pastor, J.D. Greear. In his recent book " Gospel. In Christ, there is nothing I could do to make You love me more; nothing I have done that makes You love me less. You are all I need today for everlasting joy. As You have been to me, so I will be to others. As I pray, I'll measure Your compassion by the cross and Your power by the resurrection. Me (6 yrs)...

a spoonful of tori: January 2013

http://www.aspoonfuloftori.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

January 20, 2013. A Horrible, Frustrating, Beautiful, Perfectly Good Week. I generally don't take the time to blog during the school year. Teaching Humanities, directing the middle and high school theatre programs and handling disciplinary issues as Freshman Dean tend to absorb all of my brain power and creativity. This past week was particularly noteworthy, however, so I'm going to muster what remains to document it. I drove to school fervently praying that my kids would get to perform that night after ...

Everyday Snapshots: the beach

http://everydaysnapshotsw.blogspot.com/2012/05/beach.html

Sunday, May 27, 2012. Two weeks ago we went away with Jonathan's mom and siblings to North Myrtle Beach for a couple days and were able to just retreat from the world. It was so nice! May I "seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set my mind on things above, not on things that are on earth. For I have died, and my life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is my life appears, then I also will appear with him in glory" (Col 3:1-4). One of the HIGHLIGHTS ...

http://everydaysnapshotsw.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 13, 2012. Eliza is 17 months old (what? And Jonathan and I are loving how she is starting to interact with us more and more every day. A new development as of late is that she is picking up on when people pay her attention and has started to ham it up. This past weekend she started doing this little dance and Jonathan got it on video after nap time. :). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Confessions of a Pioneer Woman. Thursday, July 5, 2012. Grabbing my camera I caught her at snack time (string cheese. I know. Don't be to impressed :) and here is what I imagine Eliza was thinking during my little photo shoot. Um hi Mom, what in the world are you doing? Sigh* "Seriously, I thought we talked about no paparazzi while eating? It makes me look bad! Well alright, just a couple pictures. Hold on, let me take a swig of milk before I perform". Ugh um um (clears throat) Hello world! Good to see you.". Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Everyday Snapshots: 12 months

http://everydaysnapshotsw.blogspot.com/2012/04/12-months.html

Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Well Eliza is officially no longer a baby. I'm not sure when this transition happened but all of a sudden my daughter is a grand explorer, a constant babbler, and a sheer delight in showing off her personality. Here are some things she's loved this past month. We love the "outside" and are constantly banging on the windows. Eliza also knows the doggies are outside (not ours) so she goes to the window and barks. :). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A Glimpse of the Everyday.

Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Where has the time gone? It feels like just a couple months ago we were bringing this little chicken nugget home from the hospital. And now she's ONE! Someone once told me that the days are long but the years fly by as a parent. Oh how true that has proven to be this year. The below picture captures Eliza well. She is our Ms. Intensity who doesn't miss a thing and is always studying what's going on. (Sound exactly like Jonathan? And here it goes. singing Happy Birthday. After the...

A party in honor of those special places where states collide. Nine Months and Random Musings →. Top 8 Things You’ll Never Hear a New Yorker Say. January 4, 2013. As I was riding the subway today, I was suddenly tickled (er, ever so slightly irritated) by how different the culture and lifestyle is here. This inspired a little Friday afternoon list of things you will never hear a New Yorker say:. 8220;Oh here, ma’am… you take my seat! A party in honor of those special places where states collide. Freezer Cooking: This is the [NYC] Remix. The Anxious Person’s Guide to Flying →. One Year in New York. May 6, 2013. This day last year, we said goodbye to life as we knew it in North Carolina and landed in New York. We’d only been married 8 days, and I’d never even stepped foot in Brooklyn before. A question I get a lot is, “So… do you like living in New York? 8221; and my answer is usually something like, “…Yeah! New York is history. New Yo...

Saturday, February 17, 2018. Chocolate Soup with Caramelized Bananas #soupswappers. You guessed it. This month's theme for Saturday Soup Swappers is Mardi Gras - Cajun or Creole. A Spoonful of Whimsy | A dose of everyday charm

A Spoonful of Whimsy. A dose of everyday charm. There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination. Did you know that Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was actually originally made as a film-length commercial for a new line of candy from Quaker Oats? The film industry had fallen on really hard times and was never more open to distribution contracts and using investors from different markets. A director’s daughter was reading the original Roald Dahl. Willy Wonka ( the original) is my all-time fa...
