NAPLAN fails the test of sustained student gains’. Four years of testing, and there is no significant difference in students’ results. The West Australian ran an article yesterday about the fact that the national mean performance has not improved over the four years of NAPLAN. “Surely if you’re going to use NAPLAN results as a measure of a success of a program that the Government is funding, then you would want to see sustained year-on-year gains.” Seems a fair comment? But it’s never that straightforward.
