Assistive Technology Specialists provide workshops and technical support which enables students with disabilities to access the curriculum, increase independence and participate actively in education and life activities. According to the Assistive Technology Act of 1988, assistive technology refers to any item, piece of equipment, or product that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities .
