Markarians Chain

Solar System / Comets. This chain of galaxies named after Benjamin Markarian who discovered their common motion. These galaxies are part of the Virgo supercluster of galaxies about 55 million light years away, give or take a few million light years. Not all of the chain fit in this frame, that would take a mosaic, maybe next time out I’ll get the rest. See how many galaxies you count, I count 37. Click images to open full size in a new tab. The bright core is being lit by a group of bright stars known as the Trapezium Cluster. As a bonus, NGC 1977 Running Man Nebula is in frame. Solar System / Comets. NGC 2244 Rosette Nebula. In the constellation of Monoceros, at a distance of 4700 light years from earth lays the Rosette nebula. The central cluster of stars provide the light and energy creating symmetrical shape. High energy winds are clearing the core that is 50 lightyears across.
