a suburban kitchen: December 2012
http://asuburbankitchen.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Food Styling, Photography and Life. Monday, December 24, 2012. Christmas is the smell of Gingerbread baking. There is truly nothing like the smell of gingerbread dough baking in the oven on a cold December day. I love making these traditional Christmas cookies. The recipe I have used for years is from my favorite baker Rose Levy Beranbaum. 3 cups all purpose flour. 1 tsp baking soda. 2 tsps ground ginger. 1/2 tsp freshly grated nutmeg. 3/4 cup dark or light brown sugar*. 12 Tbsps butter, softened. When I...

Food Styling, Photography and Life. Thursday, August 30, 2012. Prop styling by Cindy Neberz. Ahhh french fries (pomme frites)! We all have an opinion I feel when it comes to what makes the perfect one. If you have ever successfully made them at home you will agree that homemade is the best. The oil is fresh, the potatoes are fresh and the taste is unbeatable. The potato of choice is russet or Idaho. You peel the potatoes and I cut them into very thin matchsticks. Always make sure they are uniform...Next,...

Food Styling, Photography and Life. Monday, January 21, 2013. Today's inspiration comes from an apron. You won't find them at the local Target. These aprons are more like works of art. Works of art because they are lovingly handmade and designed by Melissa Moore who lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Santa Fe is a mecca for the arts so it is no wonder that these beautifully hand sewn aprons would originate from there. So how did I get my hands on them in Chicago? Well I have a story. Aprons offer an unlimite...
a suburban kitchen: November 2011
http://asuburbankitchen.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Food Styling, Photography and Life. Tuesday, November 29, 2011. Photo Shoot Chocolate Cake. My son has been begging me to make a cake. I finally succumbed to his wishes and of course a photo shoot occurred before he came home from school to eat it. I had just gotten these vintage straws in the mail from ebay and had an idea for them in the shot. However as with most photo shoots the plans did evolve into something different. I found some other props at my favorite store anthropologie. View from the top.
a suburban kitchen: March 2012

Food Styling, Photography and Life. Wednesday, March 14, 2012. The winter skies have past and the spring light has come with all it's glory. What I love about photography and shooting natural light is the connection you have to the planet. You notice the change in the seasons and you have a respect for what they give you. The winter skies with their blueish tones the summer with it's harsh shadows and bright sun that needs lots of filtering. Posted by laura Bednarski. Tuesday, March 13, 2012. First of al...

Haunted House and Summer Pastures | Christopher Kimball Blog
https://christopherkimball.wordpress.com/2011/06/15/haunted-house-and-summer-pastures
From America's Test Kitchen. Haunted House and Summer Pastures. This is our local haunted house. It used to be a girls' school and has a basement that would have been the perfect set for either the Amityville Horror or the Blair Witch Project. Strange noises, faceless ghosts, and very scared house guests are just a few of its calling cards. Photo by Stephen Hussar. On June 15, 2011 at 7:29 pm Comments (108). To TrackBack this entry is:. A Suburban Druid | Druid in the suburbs
Druid in the suburbs. About the Suburban Druid. June 22, 2015. An amazing sunrise…and a huge crowd. No, we did not go to Stonehenge! It looks like there was an amazing sunrise this year and everyone had a good time, but me and Mr SD decided to celebrate the Summer Solstice in a more sedate manner. The way I see it, the Summer Solstice is all about light.and heat…and fire, so we were up early to pack in as much daylight as we could. The event wound up with a lovely ritual where we marked the turning on th...

Saturday, March 20, 2010. Also entitled, "Why I'm Not Mad at John Piper Anymore. Well, there's a catchy turn of phrase, right? But I can't start. Because as with all good tales, this one has an interesting background. Could you lay off the we're-in-a-war-and-this-is-not-the-time-to-settle-in-kick-back-and-enjoy-life speak for just a little bit? No way. I might sweat. So God brought a young college student into our lives. He lived in not-as-famous-college-town, Georgia, and he worshipped with a group ...

A Suburban Life | at the intersection of work and life
At the intersection of work and life. September 28, 2014. 8220;Don’t think too hard before you answer,” my husband said at 11:30pm as I was about to roll over in bed and turn off the light, “but do you want me to make nachos? 8221; That was how I knew he didn’t like the dinner I’d prepared that night.
