Monday, 22 December 2014. Winter creek rides are the sweetest. It's been winter now for a day or so and it's still raining. It's starting out like one of those winters where you ride creeks and rivers and you don't get cold. Having learned from a past attempt that knowledge and preparation is better than guesses and speculations, we have set about to gain knowledge, and better prepare. So we devised a plan wherein we would drive (gasp! 2) What was the camping like at Patricia Beach? 3) Was the Peter Skrepetez Trail a rideable segue to Rd 43E? 4) Did the Floodway Rd that angles up to Mile 88N actually connect to it?

Sunday, 15 February 2015. When we rode off from St. Malo Arena at 8 AM it was -29'C with a North wind blowing at around 20 km/h. Windchill was below -40'C but the race ran anyway, because there was some promise that the temperatures would rise some, and the wind would abate some. These two things did happen, but not until well into the afternoon. We started out in a bunch, but it didn't take long for the pack to stretch. At the first checkpoint in St. Pierre Kim Mitchell caught me with an ice goatee.

Nice ride tonight, up and down between and around the villages around here - Le Beaucet to Ste Gens and back, then to Vanesque, then over to Sananque (the Abbey), then to Murs, and then over the Col du Murs and down (a fun 8 km descent! And then back through Vanesque and Le Beaucet to La Roque. 57 kms. I stopped along the way this time to take some pics. Here they are:. The road up to Ste Gens (a steady 9-11% for 2 kms or so). Mt Ventoux in the distance.

Sunday, 16 March 2014. How about a 29er? Don't mind if I do. It's a 2013 Jamis Dragon Sport. Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, Deore, and reasonable Alex wheels. RockShox XC 32 and Ritchey cockpit: 90 mm stem and 725 mm bar. The steel is Reynolds 520, so the bike's not super light, but all this comes to me for a few bucks over a grand, before taxes. I added eggbeaters, a long Easton seatpost, and a fizik saddle to make things fit for me. I think it looks and feels pretty good. For a GC finish of 14th. Yeah ...
