Sword Coast

He Atlantik Wall In. Sword Beach covered the area to the west of the Orne estuary, and formed the eastern flank of the D-day landings. This area because of its closeness to Caen and the important canal, it had the largest concentration of gun batteries than any of the other beaches. He Atlantik Wall In. This area to the east of Sword beach and the D-day landings was quite well fortified and extended to L'havre. Several major gun batteries we built along this coast. This is the latest section of Atlantik Wall to be added to the site and will take many months to complete. Some sites east of L'havre will also be added. He Atlantik Wall In. The bay of the Seine was one of the first sectors to be fortified, with the batterie at Azeville. Other batteries followed at La Pernell 1 and 2, Morsalines, Crasville, Mont Conquerel, Crisbecq and St Martin de Varreville. There was also a batterie of mobile guns placed at Chateau de Frontany, part of the iron triangle, but these were moved nearer Montebourg after D-day. Two of the Russian guns from Carteret were also moved nearer to La Pernell at the same time.
