Seth Grossman's Myths: 1st draft of final paper
http://treasuretexts.blogspot.com/2010/12/1st-draft-of-final-paper.html
Thursday, December 2, 2010. 1st draft of final paper. Myths That Stand the Test of Time. Myths recapitulate reality throughout the world in almost every form imaginable. Children are entertained by Disney fairytales in both the home and classroom setting. As they grow up, the myths are retold again in more mature settings such as The Odyssey. Even as adults, cultures throughout the world immerse themselves in imaginative worlds even if they are the same worlds of the childish fairytales. The "root" repre...

Seth Grossman's Myths: Sloppy 12/9 final exam notes
http://treasuretexts.blogspot.com/2010/12/sloppy-129-final-exam-notes.html
Thursday, December 9, 2010. Sloppy 12/9 final exam notes. What is the only permanent thing? What is the modern version of pan and Apollo? Who brought snow Pygmalion to life (in the presentation)? At the beginning there was the flood. And at the end there was a flood. How did he get away from the cyclops? He said his name was no man. What can be said about all ends? They are all beginings. What two parts did Corrine say were about the same? The heart and the groin. Read afterword of Ovid. Britta Garber - ...

Seth Grossman's Myths: Reconstructing Religion and Green Grass
http://treasuretexts.blogspot.com/2010/12/reconstructing-religion-and-green-grass.html
Thursday, December 9, 2010. Reconstructing Religion and Green Grass. I'm posting another Modest Mouse song, Lives, that I'd like to "reconstruct" with the aid of mythology. But first I want to make a side comment on something Dr. Sexson stated in class today regarding reconstruction. He said that mythology doesn't deconstruct religions, but instead it reconstructs their stories. In order to reconstruct something, doesn't it have to be deconstructed first? I digress. Here is "Lives" by Modest Mouse:.

Seth Grossman's Myths: Last Blog
http://treasuretexts.blogspot.com/2010/12/last-blog.html
Monday, December 13, 2010. I'm going to post a final blog because.well because I can. I'm assuming Dr. Sexson might still be going through the blogs and maybe I'll time mine with when he gets around to mine. This is unlikely, but I think there may be a few stragglers reading the blogs the night before the final in case they missed something. Here's a Golden Bough Christmas quote to get your holiday blood flowing:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Dustin Dallman - Mythologies. Curtis Pattee's Myth Blog.

Seth Grossman's Myths: November 2010
http://treasuretexts.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 8, 2010. Modest Mouse's best song for suffering is by far " Doin. I was in heaven. I was in hell. But fear them as. This one's a doctor. This one's a lawyer. This one's a cash. Back of the metro. Drunk on the Amtrak. The origin of junk food. Dogs eat their own shit. The cockroach yeah (alright,. Down the road in your life. You'll look in the mirror. And say, "My. Parents are still alive.". You move your mouth. You shake your tongue. But you know I ain't. In TS Eliot's,. TS Eliot is " Doin.

Seth Grossman's Myths: October 2010
http://treasuretexts.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 21, 2010. Here's an excerpt from Chapter 43: Dionysus of The Golden Bough:. Its easy for one someone to say that we have moved past eating bulls in such savage ways, but one must look closer at how and the way we eat. Don't many football players, construction workers, or military personnel demand a big, juicy steak before preparing for their feats of strength? Now we understand why Pasiphae was so eager to don a cow suit and court the white bull. It had qualities that didn't even co...

Seth Grossman's Myths: February 2010
http://treasuretexts.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 25, 2010. While searching for female archetypes, I found a table of archetype characterization from the book "Heroes and Heroines: 16 Master Archetypes," by Caro LeFever, Tami Cowden and Sue Viders. It lists 8 heroines as well as a description and a pop culture reference. The archetype we've seen in our readings recently have been The Free Spirit/the Spunky Kid. Little Red Riding Hood and Where are You Going, Where Have you Been? Class Notes 2/22, 2/24. Understand the term epiphany.

Seth Grossman's Myths: Class Notes from 12/7/10
http://treasuretexts.blogspot.com/2010/12/class-notes-from-12710.html
Tuesday, December 7, 2010. Class Notes from 12/7/10. First off, I'd like to congratulate everyone on the great job they are doing in both the group and individual presentations. I've been keeping track of the times when Dr. Sexson. Nods his head or makes "approving mumble noises" and more times than not they come in response to a quote rather than an original revelation by the presenter. It seems very apparent to me that Dr. Sexson. Each time a presenter finishes, Dr. Sexson points out the sources or...

Seth Grossman's Myths: January 2010
http://treasuretexts.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 31, 2010. Even after recalling this "10 Things I Hate About You" mess, I still wanted to recreate my version of Cinderella. I enjoyed the German version the best because of the heavy schadenfreude laced in it (schadenfreude means the satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone's misfortune). My version will also have plenty of schadenfreude in it as well. Cinderella and the Fat-Bellied Step-Sisters. The couple lived happily ever after. Friday, January 29, 2010. Tried to use his partial Shake...
