Meadow Orchard: Homemade shoe polish
http://meadoworchard.blogspot.com/2012/06/homemade-shoe-polish.html
Saturday, June 2, 2012. So this week I had a go at making this from a recipe in my new book - it's just beeswax and olive oil melted together. One thing I learned by trial and error - it needs to be stirred while cooling, otherwise you get a layer of olive oil floating on top of a layer of solid beeswax. Today I had a go. I did the right shoe of a pair of black court shoes and of a pair of brown boots - and it's come up a right treat! It's worked particularly well on the brown boots - they look lovely!

Meadow Orchard: Live to work or work to live?
http://meadoworchard.blogspot.com/2014/01/live-to-work-or-work-to-live.html
Wednesday, January 29, 2014. Live to work or work to live? I work for a consultancy, which means that the workload varies hugely because each individual client will bring you ad-hoc projects which you need to do to their schedule, rather than asking them if they'd mind until you've cleared another client's work off your desk. And this is without having children - I can well imagine that being a far more frustrating part of life to be conflicting with workload. Slowing down at work. Its so hard to get the...

Meadow Orchard: TV vs wood-burning stove
http://meadoworchard.blogspot.com/2013/12/tv-vs-wood-burning-stove.html
Friday, December 6, 2013. TV vs wood-burning stove. Picture from The Telegraph article: Can you really save £300 a year with a wood burning stove? Somehow, without the background crackling and flickering, it’s hard to replicate that atmosphere of relaxation and openness. I don’t know why but just sitting on the sofa feels like not doing something, rather than intentionally doing nothing. December 9, 2013 at 10:25 AM. You could, as discussed, try reading to one another? December 9, 2013 at 11:39 AM. We ma...

Meadow Orchard: Take a ball of yarn, add a pair of knitting needles...
http://meadoworchard.blogspot.com/2014/01/take-ball-of-yarn-add-pair-of-knitting.html
Saturday, January 4, 2014. Take a ball of yarn, add a pair of knitting needles. So having discovered that I am one size of knitting needles short of a cardigan, I popped down to the craft shop on Thursday and made my first purchases of the year - one pair of 4.5mm knitting needles and a cable needle, as I'm finding using DPNs for cables a little fiddly. I'm using the Stitch Nation Anisette Cardigan pattern. I'm also finding that sitting knitting without distractions - I normally knit in front of the tv o...

Meadow Orchard: December 2014
http://meadoworchard.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 3, 2014. The Zero Waste Home. This post is part of a series on homes that inspire me, as part of mulling over what my dream house looks like and to help motivate. 1: A cob bungalow. 2: The woodsman's cottage. 3: A minimalist cabin. 5: The tiny appartment. 6: The crafty home. I've not come across a reference to a 'no waste home'. So you may wonder what kind of house they live in, and what their lifestyle looks like. Is it hard work? So is there home cluttered, chaotic? In the meantime,...
