rugged parenthood: Will to learn

http://atypicalparenthood.blogspot.com/2012/06/will-to-learn.html

Saturday, June 9, 2012. When my son saw me leafing through a newly bought workbook, he sat beside me on the bed and looked at the picture of the pig on a number recognition and counting activity. He said, "a pencil." What he meant. Was "I want a pencil." During our tutorial sessions, I sometimes purposely neglect to provide him with writing or coloring tools after handing him a worksheet to encourage him to notice what is missing and make the appropriate requests. What do you want? Stay Quirky, My Friends.

rugged parenthood: June 2012

http://atypicalparenthood.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 26, 2012. I grew up in a neighborhood without any playground but with plenty of trees for children to climb.  There were many reasons for me and my playmates to climb trees, among them were to pluck ripe fruits  and shake the branches to dislodge June beetles, but most of the time we climbed them just for. Links to this post. Sunday, June 24, 2012. My son catches me taking pictures using the webcam. He thinks more clothespin are necessary. Who was he pretending to be, and what was my role?

Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Promise), and I would tell her that she should be the one fulfilling. It since I was too young to make that commitment. She'd get angry. I still would not go. I remembered all about these saints and finally understood why my mother had to make pacts with the saints when I began suspecting that my son had autism. Autistics, I found out from a directory. Life with an Alphabet Soup Child: April 2012

http://alphabetsoupchild.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Life with an Alphabet Soup Child. AS, ASD, ADHD, ODD, PTSD . Which letters are in your soup? Soup of the Day. Saturday, April 14, 2012. This morning I came to a sad realization. My daughter, just shy of four years old, reached a crucial childhood milestone this morning, one that every parent longs for. In doing so, she flew right past her big brother, who is nearly twelve, and who has not yet mastered that particular skill. I'm worried as to whether he will ever master it. Someday, she will learn how to ...

Life with an Alphabet Soup Child. AS, ASD, ADHD, ODD, PTSD . Which letters are in your soup? Soup of the Day. Thursday, February 23, 2012. Today I was thrilled to receive a package in the mail containing my contributor copies of Autism Asperger's Digest. As a writer, this is one of those major moments: my first print story. My life often feels like it revolves around Asperger's. I remember reading the book House Rules. The character of the mother stated that she felt like she herself sometimes had Asperg...

Monday, March 10, 2014. You Don't Remember The Score. If you think back to the first sporting event you went to, you don't remember the score, you don't remember a home run, you don't remember a dunk. You remember who you were with. Were you with your mom, your dad, your brother, on a date? I've had the privilege of going to many baseball games at Yankee Stadium, but I'd never been to a professional rugby game.
