AudioSharp: October 2009
http://www.audiosharp.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Music, Programming, and other topics related to the modern Music Engineering Scene. Monday, October 26. A new week brings a few more op-amp circuits. Let's dive right in. This is a summing op-amp. It will add together the signals labeled Va, Vb and Vc. Basically, this is an audio mixer! You can change the levels of each signal by changing the value of its resistor. You can think of it as three inverting amplifiers combined into one summing op-amp. This is the Subtracting/Difference Amp. And that's all th...
AudioSharp: Digital Microphones
http://www.audiosharp.blogspot.com/2010/11/digital-microphones.html
Music, Programming, and other topics related to the modern Music Engineering Scene. Thursday, November 11. Microphones are analog by nature. The membrane physically interacts with the airwaves around it, recording any vibrations is senses. So how in the world do you make a digital microphone? These were my thoughts exactly as I entered the workshop on the development of these mics. What the heck is a digital microphone? Signal goes from the mi. Digital microphones propose the solution. Digital microphone...
AudioSharp: Digital Audio: The Basics
http://www.audiosharp.blogspot.com/2010/01/digital-audio-basics.html
Music, Programming, and other topics related to the modern Music Engineering Scene. Digital Audio: The Basics. Tuesday, January 19. With the advent of computers, audio has been digitized. This should not come as a shock to you, as we've been using digital audio for many years now. But just how is audio digitized? The next few posts go over digital audio - the good parts and the bad. Digital Audio relies on Quantization. Think of this like a grid being superimposed over your signal:.
AudioSharp: December 2009
http://www.audiosharp.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Music, Programming, and other topics related to the modern Music Engineering Scene. Friday, December 11. First, I must apologize for the huge delay in posts. College has kept me very busy as of late. With the end of the semester comes a few more posts. Because op-amps run off of a DC voltage, right? This means your audio signal gets biased to halfway between the rails of your op-amp. This extra DC voltage can cause a hum, which the addition of capacitors will eliminate. Pretty handy trick, eh? Chemzoar d...

Last Update: Sunday December 20, 2009. Trying to get the perfect mix. Last Update: Monday March 15, 2010. These screenshots are taken from a program I made while working for TicketNetwork. There was a need to track our website across multiple search engines for various keywords. I was in charge of the original design, all aspects of version control (beta testing, updating, troubleshooting), and interacted directly with users to add desirable features. Designed with C# and WinForms.

How did we run our simulations? Follow this easy process! Make a model in Google Sketchup. Import model to JBL EASE. What Did We Learn From All This? After running all of our simulations and comparing them to how the stairwell actually sounds, we have confirmed that JBL EASE does a very good job modeling rooms. Here's what we learned, in picture-book form. Model from Google Skethcup. Model in JBL EASE. Ray Tracing - 3D View. Ray Tracing - Side View. Want To Learn More? To see my final paper, Click Here.

Thursday January 14, 2010. Winter break it just about over, and I must say. work kept me very busy. I did not find any time to update any of my own websites. After work, I would either catch up with my high school friends, or go straight to bed. It's been a busy break, but I learned a lot and you can bet there will be some major updates soon. Endgame: Semester Three Complete. Friday December 18, 2009. I finished my third semester at UM. Classes ended on Tuesday, and I started working at TicketNetwork.

Software Development Intern (SDEV). I spent summer 2011 interning on the Windows Audio team. It was my first real forray into OS code, and I had a blast. My team was a lot of fun to work with. They liked me so much that I've been offered a full-time position after graduation! Needless to say, I can't wait to go back. Digital Audio Development Intern. Need to make a website? I'd be happy to get a website up and running for you, even under short time constraints. On both the bass and cello. An Engraver not...

The University of Miami campus at night. Music Engineering at the University of Miami is more than just another shoddy recording program. You'll learn more in one semester here than you will at most other music tech programs. Class focus is on hardware design, not use. I spend my nights in the recording studio on campus, learning the ins and outs of studio recording. Daytime brings a multitude of projects. Here's a list of what I've done lately. Done research with Emotiv's user-friendly EEG.

A subjective look at digital filtering. There are two types of digital filters applied to audio: Finite Impulse Response (FIR) and Infinite Impulse Response (IIR). Both types have been studied mathematically with close attention being paid to the differences in the theory behind each. This course, however, did not have a side-by-side demonstration of the audible characteristics of the two. How much does phase distortion really matter? Will hundreds of coefficients be enough to bog down modern computers?
