The Quality Curmudgeon: July 2005
http://qualitycurmudgeon.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html
Mumbles and Grumbles About the World of Quality. Sunday, July 17, 2005. Target has been flying high in recent years due to its nice selection of merchandise and well-designed stores, which are especially popular with women. Target has also benefited from some anti-Wal-Mart backlash. We’d like to return these items, I said to the red-shirted teenager at the customer service desk. And we don’t have a receipt. I can't give you your money back, he replied. You’ll have to do an exchange. He also informed us t...

The Quality Curmudgeon: June 2005
http://qualitycurmudgeon.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html
Mumbles and Grumbles About the World of Quality. Wednesday, June 01, 2005. People. Always People. Two months ago in Quality Digest I wrote of some of my experiences with Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer. I even got Wal-Mart's attention. Barbara Brown, Wal-Mart's vice president of customer service responded. I think that racism and discrimination are alive and well in America today. Neither of them should be tolerated anywhere, at any time, by anyone, particularly in a business setting. People run c...

Apr 5, 2013. Built for comfort - not style or Why E-mail wont die - just yet - Clay Shirkey - Here Comes Everybody - Ch 6. My fav quote on e-mail from Chapter 6. What does e-mail have going for it that the other attempts at many-to-many communication didn't? For one. With e-mail, having a large, long-lived, and geographically widespread conversation entails no expenses. E-mail delivery is almost instant. The internet has "t. And critically, are comfortable using in their daily lives. Our community had lo...

Kerrie Anne's Fridge Magnets: Loss of Nuclear Vessel USS Thresher - Lessons from 50 Years Ago
http://kerrieannesfridgedoor.blogspot.com/2013/04/loss-of-nuclear-vessel-uss-thresher.html
Apr 6, 2013. Loss of Nuclear Vessel USS Thresher - Lessons from 50 Years Ago. Periodically I attend Australian Standards meetings where I am a member of several Quality related committees and also a committee on Pressure Equipment. These can be dry of course but the Quality one's were often enlivened with yarns by Bob Innes, retired ANSTO and Steelplant engineer. One of the most evocative stories from Bob was that of the loss of the USS Thresher, which occurred 50 years ago in April 1963. 1 Give equal we...

The Quality Curmudgeon: May 2005
http://qualitycurmudgeon.blogspot.com/2005_05_01_archive.html
Mumbles and Grumbles About the World of Quality. Sunday, May 01, 2005. In the May issue of. Dirk Dusharme’s wrote a brilliant defense of my last column. To read it, click here. Go ahead. I’ll wait. In his column, Dirk responds to a cranky reader who thought I was expecting too much from a Wal-Mart greeter because he wasn’t highly paid. The reader also refers to a burger flipper at Burger King as not exactly a rocket scientist because he works for minimum wage. And you thought I was an elitist snob. Befor...
