ABOUT THE JUSTICE OF THE PEACE -. The Justice of the Peace presides over approximately 400 civil matters and 3,000 traffic and misdemeanor criminal matters a year. In addition the Justice of the Peace performs marriages, reviews search warrants, and may preside over some juvenile matters, in addition to other matters. Currently, the Justice of the Peace presides over the Hill County DUI and Drug Courts.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE -. Montana law does not require that a Justice of the Peace be admitted to the bar, but clearly more experience makes for the best candidate. It is extremely important that the person holding the office have as much varied experience in the legal field as possible. I was born in. Montana, as the first child of Morris and Barbara Mavencamp. In my early childhood they moved my younger brother, Dan, and me to Polson. Montana, where I attended school and graduated from high school. After graduation, I moved to Havre. Montana, to attend Northern. College now known as MSU-Northern. Marty and I have always been proud to call Havre our home, and over the years have served the community through participation in various Hi-Line organizations.
