Project Auldearn 1645: December 2014

http://auldearn1645.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Wargaming the War of the Three Kingdoms in Scotland. Friday, December 19, 2014. Originally a dragoon regiment, by the end of its career, the troopers had become hardened enough (and perhaps with sturdier nags) to become traditional cavalry. Its recruiting area under Hugh Fraser of Kynneries is unknown. All of its senior officers where veterans from the continent. As Cromwell advanced, the dragoons cleared the ditch in front of the main body of horse, allowing the allied line to charge unimpeded. Afte...

Wargaming the War of the Three Kingdoms in Scotland. Friday, September 5, 2014. First article is out - not seen the magazine yet so dont know whats in/out and also how the photos look. However, knowing Guy, he will have applied some TLC and it should look suitably spiffing! Labels: Wargames Soldiers and Strategy. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Marquis of Montrose. http://auldearn1645.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Wargaming the War of the Three Kingdoms in Scotland. Saturday, August 16, 2014. Last of the Free. Even though the summer has been dominated with lots of adventures I have managed to finish these. All I have to do now is paint the horses, so even though there are quite a few, for me, Project Auldearn is almost over. No more hodden grey! That being said, its been a great journey but I doubt I would be here if it wasn't for the encouragement of all the guys who follow this blog. Thanks for your support.

Wargaming the War of the Three Kingdoms in Scotland. Friday, March 6, 2015. Lord Balfour of Burleigh's Regiment. The garrison [Burleigh's Regt] ware the last that stood in the maine battell, and, being miserablie rent and torne, they, like bold and well trained souldioures, make there retreat in order, and too boldly resolves to march south, by crossing the [River] Die". Land of the Lead: October 2014

http://landofthelead.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 21, 2014. 28mm Achaemenid Persian Heavy Cavalry. The first unit of heavy cavalry for my revamped Ancient Persian army. I normally don't make cavalry units this large but they just seem to befit this type of army. They are from Foundry but I think they have been rebadged as Casting Room Miniatures for their eBay site. They are larger than the older, Perry designed range but they still look pretty good and larger is acceptable for heavy cavalry. Hope you like the pics. Looking at the the g...

Land of the Lead: March 2015

http://landofthelead.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 28, 2015. Here is a selection of minis that I have painted over the last few months. Above and below are some 20mm Minaron Spanish Civil War Nationalist infantry. This is a 28-30mm early medieval mounted command group. The General is a Mithril mini (Theoden) and the standard bearer is the GW Lord of the Rings Aragorn. A really old Minfigs that I have had for several decades. I decided it was time I painted him. Quite a large figure, at least 28mm. An ugly brute - 25mm scale. It was a good...

Land of the Lead: December 2014

http://landofthelead.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 27, 2014. Hope you all had a great Christmas. Some additions to an Old School Wood Elves army I am putting together. Three Treemen and a Treeman lord - "Durthu". The Wood Elf archer was included as a scale reference. As someone who has never painted 'monsters' before, I was surprised how much I enjoyed doing these guys. Something like 4 days from start to finish. It was fun to experiment with various washes and building up shading and texture. Hope you like the results. Subscribe to: P...

Project Auldearn 1645

Wargaming the War of the Three Kingdoms in Scotland. Wednesday, January 17, 2018. Auldearn offers a twist on the classic encounter battle. Although often claimed as Montrose’s greatest victory, its result changed little in the course of the campaign and was a closer run affair than most texts would lead you to believe. This article aims to describe the battle as we understand it. The principal road through Auldearn ran north-south through the village. In Auldearn, only MacCollas veteran lifeguard and Gor...
