Tuesday, November 27, 2007. Most people are familiar with the most common bee in Australia, the honey bee ( Apis mellifera. What they might not know is that this species was introduced to Australia from Europe in about 1822 to ensure that the new colony had plenty of honey. You might wonder why this happened if you knew that Australia has over 1500 species of native bees. Since the establishment of the Eco Learning Area. The Blue banded bee. Photographed in the Wolli Valley). Are one of the stingless bee...
The Novice Beekeeper: A day of hive maintenance
http://novicebeekeeper.blogspot.com/2010/04/day-of-hive-maintenance.html
Here you can follow my adventures as I learn the art of wholistic beekeeping. Welcome to The Novice Beekeeper. Tuesday, April 27, 2010. A day of hive maintenance. After weeks of rain we had a sunny day, so we made the most of it and headed out to check the hives. We'd decided to try to get out there (weather permitting) once a fortnight just to check the small hive beetle traps and to see how they are going and if they need harvesting. We have small hive beetles in our hives, but they seem to be being ke...

The Novice Beekeeper: December 2010
http://novicebeekeeper.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Here you can follow my adventures as I learn the art of wholistic beekeeping. Welcome to The Novice Beekeeper. Friday, December 31, 2010. On December 15 we had an opportunity to get out and harvest some honey from our hives so we went for it. It's been raining here pretty much all year - I'm not joking! Miserable for us stuck inside and miserable for the bees too I imagine. The rain washes the nectar and honey from the hives and they just don't get the runs of fine days to work their magic. Just this month we harvested 30kgs from them and they quickly sold at our local markets on the weekend. We keep European Honey Bees and Australian Native Stingless Bees.

Here you can follow my adventures as I learn the art of wholistic beekeeping. Welcome to The Novice Beekeeper. Thursday, October 21, 2010. Finally - a bumper harvest this week! Finally we've had some clear weather to get out and harvest some honey from our hives. It's been a pretty miserable winter for the Sunshine Coast, lots of rain and when it wasn't raining it was either overcast or windy - or both. None of it good for beekeeping. Here it is finished but unpainted. Here is our first frame of the day ...

Becky's Australian Adventure | My trip down unda
Becky's Australian Adventure. My trip down unda. July 7, 2011 / Becky. The Bacon and Egg Roll. America: wake up. Put down that Egg McMuffin. And forget your fancy-schmancy-graham-cracker-crusted-ricotta-filled french toast. I am about to change your life. It is called the bacon and egg roll, and it is revolutionary. What it lacks in looks it makes up in utter deliciousness. My interpretation of the beloved sandwich (blurry, but you get it). I dare you to try one and not dream about it that very night.
