Tragedy Contrasted. | Rough Around the Edges

Skip to main content. Skip to secondary content. Rough Around the Edges. My journey through faith, love, and life. December 15, 2012. Word broke yesterday of the tragic elementary school shooting in Connecticut, and I don’t believe it really hit me until this morning. I woke up devastated; for the families, the friends, and the nation affected by such a senseless act. How you do you console the inconsolable? How do you explain the need for such incomprehensible pain? Every child DESERVES life. My only pr...

Skip to main content. Skip to secondary content. Rough Around the Edges. My journey through faith, love, and life. The Post Nopocalypse Blog! December 22, 2012. I realize, in retrospect, that my first blog post probably established a tone that screamed, “Serious, Weighty, Africa Blog.”. With that preface out of the way, I miss cheeseburgers. And football. And movie theatres. I haven’t really had a huge bout of homesickness; usually just moments where I find myself craving a Big Mac and ...There has been ...

Skip to main content. Skip to secondary content. Rough Around the Edges. My journey through faith, love, and life. The Day She Talked. January 30, 2013. I’ve found it’s really easy to complain here. When I can’t just run to Walgreen’s to get some cold medicine, or when I can’t sleep because I feel like I swallowed a porcupine, or when I wake up craving a Sausage McMuffin… some days, I feel like a round American peg being jammed into a square African hole. Fast forward to this Monday, and the same story p...

Tuesday, May 21, 2013. Nuremberg Zoo Field Trip. Last week I got to go with Kason's kindergarten class to the Nuremberg Zoo. Well, really, I drove myself and met the class there, took Kason and one other kid (Kyle) from his class around the zoo, and then drove Kason and myself home. The Nuremberg Zoo is amazing! We had a really fun time and even got to watch a dolphin show while we were there! Germany does things right. Trying to figure out the map:. They also had this amazing park at the zoo that the ki...
The Jensen Life: Normandy: Day 1
http://jensens2012.blogspot.com/2015/04/normandy-day-1.html
Wednesday, April 22, 2015. After Disneyland Paris, we headed to the coast of France to see Normandy. Ever since getting to Germany, in 2012, Normandy has probably been one of our top desired locations to tour, I knew we would regret it if we didn't make time to see it. And I'm so glad we did. The first beach we stopped at was Gold Beach. This was the beach invaded by the Canadians, so not much American connection here. Kason wanted to get in the water but apparently it was freezing. I can't even imagine ...
The Jensen Life: June 2013
http://jensens2012.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 28, 2013. Granada, Spain {June 2}. The first week of June we went to Spain. For an entire week. A week! We stayed in Malaga at an old people resort . well, really it was just a normal resort that lots of old people stayed at. But, it felt like an old people resort. And our bathroom smelled like sewage. But, we had an awesome patio . so that made up for it. Plus, we were in Southern Spain. Thank heavens for my little translator . We had a (very) broken conversation and she was so adorable, I ...
The Jensen Life: January 2014

Sunday, January 19, 2014. I am super, incredibly, behind in my blogging because what you're about to see happened back in October. Wow. So, my main squeeze was deployed and Kase-face had been wanting to go to Scotland! So, we headed over to the land of the Scots during the first weekend of October. I figured it was a safe destination since everyone spoke English! Lastly, I fell in love with Highland Cows. I didn't see any up close and personal, only in passing (while stuck on a bus) so, I didn't get ...
The Jensen Life: November 2014
http://jensens2012.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 9, 2014. Brad and I had been to Paris before without Kason, (back here. And rest our feet before our afternoon of walking. These boys sure make our adventures fun! The 'Three Shades' statue is also kept at the Rodin. We washed it out, determined he didn't need stitches and besides having a sore head, he was fine! So we headed off to the Eiffel Tower. But first.we had to stop and get the boys some eclairs, they live for those things! Wasting time in front of the Eiffel Tower. After dinner...
The Jensen Life: February 2014
http://jensens2012.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 23, 2014. Initially, I was upset! I felt like I was getting jipped on our deployment experience. He had only been gone for two months! Kason knew Brad was coming home but he didn't know the actual date. We had to go to Ramstein to pick him up and I told Kason we were going to pick up a friend whose car had broken down. (He's really gullible! I, on the other hand, was pretty excited to see my main squeeze, after a two month hiatus! We spent a lot of time with family . but, not enough&...

Monday, December 29, 2014. Our final day of Disneyland, we opened and closed the park. The weather was perfect and everyone remained happy all day long. Disneyland tends to do that to people. Not to mention Brad got to see his crush.he's more obsessed with Elsa than a 4 year old little girl. The rides in France were Bea-U-tiful! It's like they added a little extra sprinkle of Paris charm to everything. I normally hate the Teacup ride but, how can you deny that charming ride a spin of the cup! We somehow ...
The Jensen Life: October 2013

Wednesday, October 2, 2013. So much of our life is captured by my phone and I don't usually take the time to put them on the blog but, those are the little things that matter most because they make us a family, they create our memories and the little things are what we are doing day after day as a family! Most of these pictures are from August/September . Bowling as a family the night before Brad deployed. Right before Kason said good night - talk about a tear jerker! Tears were definitely shed . We also...
The Jensen Life: September 2013
http://jensens2012.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 18, 2013. I feel like I haven't even had time lately to blog! Which is crazy considering I have more free time than before. Regardless, here's what's been happening in the life of us:. All in all - we're surviving deployment number 1! 2) Kason started first grade. What. The. Heck. Why is he getting older! Plus, for Kason it has been really good to have older kids model the appropriate behavior in a classroom setting. His teacher told me, "I'm SO glad you put him in multi-age! 5) I st...

Saturday, August 24, 2013. Finally, I am finishing up London. It's been almost two months since we've been there! Friday night after we did Harry Potter World, we went back to the apartment, get Kason into bed and the Brad and I headed out for a little night on the town! We headed for Trafalgar Square first:. We sat on the statue in the middle and just people watched for a bit and enjoyed each others company. Brad took a little cat-nap. Then we headed back to the apartment! Tuesday, August 20, 2013.

The Gospel According to Austin
The Gospel According to Austin. One man's journey through the Christian culture of Austin, Texas. Saturday, December 26, 2009. Tragic News for Journey IFC and Austin. I have been a bit off the journey here lately - an unexpected divorce intervened in my otherwise easygoing life - and I felt the need to be in one place for while, so I've been attending Riverbend. Last Sunday morning, I found out that a valued member of the Austin Christian community, David Gentiles. Died in a tragic accident. These types ...
