Austin Wieland

Monday, March 18, 2013. Here is part of a new piece. It will have large ceramic legs to lift it off the floor. There will be a windmill driven by a motion sensor and electric air pump when the piece is completed. Thursday, February 28, 2013. Here is a new piece I have had in the works for a while. The box will be mounted on the wall, but this was easier and easier setup to adjust the motion sensor settings. It needs a few more things, but it is up and working! Where the magic happens. Here are some image...

http://www.austinwieland.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Friday, November 16, 2012. Here are some images of work that I have completed and things in progress from this week. This piece will hold an air pump on the inside of the main slab construction. A balloon will go on the inside of the round piece with the cutouts on it and bulge out of the openings when inflated. Wednesday, November 14, 2012. For those who like Rube Goldberg. Sunday, November 11, 2012. Electric Pump in a Sculpture? Wednesday, November 7, 2012. Lately, I have ...

Austin Wieland: December 2012

http://www.austinwieland.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 5, 2012. I figured out a way to take the axles from these wheels and make ceramic pulleys for them. Here is what I have in mind:. It is very simple right now, but it will use a hand crank to spin the pulleys. The belt will complete a closed track through the system of pulleys without completing a specific task. Austin Wieland: Firing Large Work

http://www.austinwieland.blogspot.com/2012/12/firing-large-work.html

Sunday, December 2, 2012. I have started to realize the stress of firing larger work. It is something fairly new to me and if I keep going in this direction I have already figured out ways to make loading and unloading easier. This got loaded today and another piece is cooling in the car kiln. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Edinboro University Blog Links. View my complete profile. Awesome Inc. template. Austin Wieland: September 2012

http://www.austinwieland.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Friday, September 28, 2012. He also gave us a tour of his studio and saw how his studio operates. We learned how he makes his clay, glazes, packs work, and much more! He seems like a great resource of knowledge and I am looking forward to learning more about his kilns when we visit again. For images of the visit see our kiln photographer's blog (Ben)! BLAM Clay: December 2012

http://blamclay.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 5, 2012. I just stumbled across this great ceramic artist Shanna Fleigel. She is a potter as well as a sculptor that utilizes environmentalist imagery, and she uses FISH and other aquatic life! Check her out. Her surfaces are lovely and her content is funny yet serious. Shackled to the Momentum Forward. Earthenware, hardware, rubber. Anticipating a Surplus: Going Nowhere. Earthenware, found objects. 21" x 12" x 6". 10 x 10 x 3. I really enjoy the finishes on Ben Ahlvers.

Marge Gormley's Ceramics: Thanksgiving Break... What?

http://margegormleyceramics.blogspot.com/2012/11/thanksgiving-break-what.html

Sunday, November 25, 2012. Thanksgiving Break. What? This week was Thanksgiving break! How can that be? Time is flying and I am feeling the pressure set in! I love the idea of transferring my patterning through the use if sgraffitto! Something I will definitely be doing more of. It was somehow liberating and it adds to some of the layering and depth I am trying to achieve. November 26, 2012 at 4:48 PM. So glad you are using slips and love the rubbed out sgraffito! http://www.gratiab.com/2011/02/who-says-ceramics-and-performance-art.html

Wednesday, February 2, 2011. Who Says Ceramics and Performance Art Don't Mix? We were talking about conceptual and contemporary art in Art Theory Seminar - and, inevitably, the discussion turned to what is good and bad conceptual art and why. Now, one might say that conceptual performance art clay=mud. And one would be right. Seriously, I love her pieces - especially Stasis and the Hunger Project Performance. Lovelessclay: The Antikythera Mechanism

http://lovelessclay.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-antikythera-mechanism.html

Thursday, November 8, 2012. Here is a video about the "Antikythera Mechanism" which is the type of thing that is inspiring my new work. Many of you probably know about it, but if not, I urge you to watch this video. It's kind of long, and a bit dramatic, but very interesting non the less. November 12, 2012 at 9:24 AM. Travis Winters Blog: October 2013

http://traviswinters.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 17, 2013. Been a while since I have posted anything, but I have still been keeping busy in the studio. Here is a bouncing/jumping guinea pig that I recently finished. By using an old car shock spring, I was able to make the guinea bobble and sway over the moon. This was a very fun piece to construct and I was pleasantly surprised when everything finally came together. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Simple template. Saturday, September 29, 2012. Today Marge Gormley, Austin Weiland and I went to visit Bill Campbell's. Studio in Cambridge Springs, PA. We learned about his computer controlled kilns. His envelope kiln was especially great! He also brought us through his slipcasting, slip and clay processing/recycling system, mold making, and product/shipping warehouse. He was very generous, and shared a true wealth of information with us. Thank you Bill. The slip and clay processing/conditioning area. We were looking at...
