Australia Excursion, 2010. 28th March 2010 - Day 10. At 8 am our day started with another big breakfast and a blue sky above us. A short time later we were snorkling out to lighthouse bommie, well equipped with underwater cameras to photodocumnet and indentify as many reef fish as possible. Australia Excursion, 2010. For 2 weeks 20 students from Germany, Singapore and Australia will explore a range of marine habitats on Stradbroke Island and Lady Elliot Island in Queensland, Australia - this blog will describe the adventures we have while Down Under! We're hoping to see all sorts of cool marine invertebrates that we've learnt about the last few months, and maybe even some manta rays, turtles and sharks. Of course we'll also sample some of the local Aussie culture along the way!

Australia Excursion, 2010. Saturday, 20th March - Day 2. A short but intensive rain shower gave us the opportunity for a quick and refreshing lunch stop. After lunch we started our way back to our accommodation at Manta Lodge, passing Frenchmans Bay, Deadmans Beach, and Cylinder Beach, while looking for various coastal invertebrate assemblages. After having two breakfasts (for a few of us) we set out for our first invertebrate collection during low tide on the Dunwhich mud flat Every student had their own shovel, bucket and glove to be protected from poisonous species like the blue lined octo.
