Nancy Moser -- Author, Speaker, and Grandma-Extraordinaire

And though editors have often insisted I cut thousands of words from my overlong manuscripts (on one historic occasion, 74,000 words, which is literally another story), I find it much easier to cut entire scenes, subplots, and even characters from my novels than to leave items on my to-do list undone. 8221; he asks. Nancy Moser -- Author, Speaker, and Grandma-Extraordinaire: July 2014

http://www.authornancymoser.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 21, 2014. A man of many companions may come to ruin,. But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. True friends are as rare as lightning in a blizzard—and just as dazzling. I can talk to a total stranger and hopefully make them feel at home. I can negotiate the proper party mingle, and can even be quite witty with a plate of cheese and crackers in my hand. But as far as enjoying many deep down bosom-buddy friendships? Only a few have brightened my life. Not Katie in Lincoln. It wa...

Tuesday, October 28, 2014. Canning Cinnamon Pear Sauce. A family of pears: Papa, Mama,. Teen, and Baby. One of the best gifts my parents ever gave me was a pressure cooker for canning. Over the years I've canned applesauce, peaches, salsa, and pears. I'd like to try tomatoes. A task for another day. Today I'm dealing with pears. My sister has a pear tree in her yard and just gave me a huge box of them. You can't refuse or ignore free fruit, so I decided to can them. Here are my step by step instructions:.

Nancy Moser -- Author, Speaker, and Grandma-Extraordinaire: Getting Ahead of the Game

http://www.authornancymoser.blogspot.com/2015/01/getting-ahead-of-game.html

Saturday, January 17, 2015. Getting Ahead of the Game. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others,. Faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. I Peter 4: 9-10. As the year changes over, I vow this will be the year I get ahead of the game—whatever that game might be. I'm tired of procrastinating. I'm tired of feeling the pressure of should-dos. I'm tired of being tired. A little at a time. I’ll do it tomorrow. Their...

Nancy Moser -- Author, Speaker, and Grandma-Extraordinaire: April 2015

http://www.authornancymoser.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, April 11, 2015. Stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you. 2 Thessalonians 2: 15. If you want to teach something, be something. Sometimes I wish I could tell my kids to carry on, do what they know is right and don't mind me. Being a hypocrite is easy. Being a role model takes work—more work than I'm up to after tethering and weathering the moments of my life. When my three children were small, I could get away with the convenience of "do as I say, not as I do". It doesn't help my...

Nancy Moser -- Author, Speaker, and Grandma-Extraordinaire: May 2014

http://www.authornancymoser.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, May 28, 2014. Trying to Earn It. Faith is being sure of what we hope for. And certain of what we do not see. I am a cause-and-effect person. Some of the cause-and-effect lessons learned are pretty mundane:. If I eat the entire carton of cherry chocolate-chip ice cream I won’t have room for dinner—among other consequences. If I don’t clean the kitchen my mother will stop over unannounced. There are heavier situations where this also applies. If I want to get a book published, I need to work hard.

Find Steph on Facebook. Wednesday, June 5, 2013. Name This Character. Please. Names are my nemesis. I can find faces. I spent a lovely couple of hours yesterday finding faces and "auditioning" them on the toile-covered board in my office. But names. ARRRGHHH. The fact that I've already used so many names in past books complicates things immensely. So many of the women's names I like have already been "taken.". So here's "her" photo. The clothing is. This is my leading lady. A contest, after all.

On this Veterans Day we thank all our veterans who have served to protect and defend our country. My family has had a long line of veterans, from my dad in World War II, to a grandfather in World War I, to two great-grandfathers in the Civil War, and another "great" fighting in the Revolutionary War. God bless America! Thinking of Veterans ignites a swell of patriotism in my breast. And.

Which is set in an English manor house- and after being a Downton Abbey fanatic since Mary and Edith first argued- I became aware of the details and delicacies of proper etiquette. ETIQUETTE: The act of behaving in an utterly proper way so you won't get your hand slapped or be shunned from the members of society who made up the rules which are almost impossible to follow. Find Steph on Facebook. Monday, July 22, 2013. I was scanning through Pinterest (an addiction- at least I admit it) and saw some "eye miniatures". I had never heard of such a thing. But apparently in the late 1700's people would commission a portrait of their loved one's eyes. Or eye. Just one. They can be quite pricey to collect, from $1000 to $20,000. But beware the fake! Here's a fascinating article about it (and Antiques Road Show) here. I also found a book about them. Lost in the past, no doubt.

As I sit in my air-conditioned house and drive my air-conditioned car, wearing shorts, sandals, and a breezy cotton top, I wonder how women of the past dealt with hot weather. Thinking of all their layers upon layers makes me melt. Where’s my fan? So how did women tolerate the heat? Perhaps part of the answer is simple:. The change in seasons comes gradually, allowing the body time to adjust.

That’s one reason I chose it as an integral element in An Unlikely Suitor. A soldier’s life is a lonely one. When sent far from home. War brings out the strength in him. And the battle drives him on. The hills sharply rocky. Rough trenches sank deep.
