PLAYing with Passion

I am an Autism Specialist who uses the DIR method (Floortime/PLAY) to work, one on one, with my clients in their homes. I have been given a gift and would rather write about IT, than do housework. :) I also live by a lake and enjoy playing in the water, on the boat, and in the dirt. (c)2009-2010. All rights reserved.

PLAYing with Passion: January 2010

http://autismplay-karen.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 25, 2010. 1) WAIT.ALWAYS WAIT (can't be said enough times). 2) Go for AFFECT. (Whatever will make child smile, light up, pay attention). 3) Make sure 'circles' are towards PEOPLE, not THINGS. 4) Ask yourself, "Is this fun for? If not, stop and join. 5) Label actions, words, and feelings. 6) Express your affect as SYMPATHY, not control, when they want to do something you don't want to do or is not allowed. PLAYing with Passion: Reciprocal Play

http://autismplay-karen.blogspot.com/2010/09/reciprocal-play.html

Wednesday, September 29, 2010. One of the things that I've been so excited to see, this year, is Reciprocal Play. Emerging with a few of "my kids". Reciprocal Play is important in play activities like pillow fights, tag, pool play etc. ALL of my kids enjoy being tickled, squashed by pillows and chased, to some extent. But the REAL magic is when THEY want to do those things to ME! May 20, 2011 at 6:21 AM. May 28, 2014 at 7:44 AM. Thanks for sharing. http:/ www.voice4autism.org. Kodak Printer Ink Cartridges.

Friday, February 17, 2012. I am FUN- at least to pre-verbal kids on the Autism Spectrum- or not. Not bragging- just confident and have had that confidence shorn up, every time I see the sparkle in a kid's eye when they see me. (Yes- kids with ASD have eyes that "sparkle"). Links to this post. PLAYing with Passion: February 2010

http://autismplay-karen.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Monday, February 15, 2010. Exciting New Communication Device! If you have an apraxic child, this just might be the ticket! A Speech Therapist brought this to my attention and I think it looks GREAT. Nearly EVERY kid has a Nintendo DS, so they fit right in with other kids, instead of lugging around a Dynavox/Dynamite. It is portable, and socially appropriate. You can add a "regular" voice instead of a robot. It is just $100 a year (if you already have the DS) and has a 30 day trial period. One way that I'...

It’s hard to believe that he started 7. Things last year started rough. The transition to middle school was hard. It was exhausting actually. He struggled a lot. He hated it. He doesn't hate it anymore. He tolerated it. He hung in. We think we have fixed the biggest struggles and he’s doing okay. At the end of the d...
