Autistic Adult App Project

Autistic Adult App Project. Friday, September 12, 2014. Recently, I had to go looking for a text-to-speech extension for my Chrome browser. I wanted an extension for the browser since I've had bad experiences with screen readers in the past, and was having some difficulty with the built-in accessibility features on my computer. And really, all I wanted was something fairly decent to read to me my course lectures and articles so that I can follow along with the text. Saturday, March 1, 2014. Just in case,...

Autistic Adult App Project: Speak For Yourself

http://autisticapp.blogspot.com/2014/03/speak-for-yourself.html

Autistic Adult App Project. Saturday, March 1, 2014. Last year at the Autism Society conference '13, I had a chance to meet up wi th Heidi and Renee, two of the creators behind the Speak for Yourself AAC app. They had some very interesting badges for us to put on our name-tags, as well as a chance to test out their app. Both of them were thrilled to hear feedback and suggestions by autistic adults, and a couple of us were willing to discuss various topics about our experiences and communication. While I ...

Autistic Adult App Project: Waterfalls, Rain Sounds and Relaxation

http://autisticapp.blogspot.com/2012/09/waterfalls-rain-sounds-and-relaxation.html

Autistic Adult App Project. Friday, September 28, 2012. Waterfalls, Rain Sounds and Relaxation. Over the years in school, I have discovered that not only do showers and the sound of running bath tubs help me to relax and think, but also helps me to understand difficult textbooks and articles. Unfortunately, I cannot stay in the bathroom all day with the tap running, so I've turned to some alternatives. Now, when I'm at my computer, I tend to go to the Niagara Falls Webcam from the Hilton Fallsview Hotel.

Autistic Adult App Project. Wednesday, January 25, 2012. Is an app I picked up from the ASD iPod Touch Project Apps (.pdf). And have tested it out. It is a free app developed by iPrompter. A company that produces professional teleprompt devices. Since the software is originally for teleprompting, this is an example of technology created for one purpose being used in a similar way as assistive technology. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Monday, July 8, 2013. Hello all, sorry I've been so quiet. I've been studying, and then taking things easy to recuperate and prepare. This July, I'll be in Pittsburgh, PA, for the 44th Annual Autism Society Conference. I'll also be looking for quiet spaces. I'm just amused that I applied for one award, and was selected fo...

Saturday, August 30, 2014. Yesterday I put to rest my childhood cat, Nibbles. Amongst many things, it has me thinking about grief, and the mourning process. What is important for family members to know, for autistic people to know, is when to offer help, when to let people be to mourn by themselves, and ask for help.

Life of an angel with Autism through her father's eyes. March 29, 2016. Posted by seneth in Anxiety. For many months, we’ve been contemplating options to integrate our daughter into a mainstream class room. She’s been attending a Learning Support Unit (LSU) of a public primary school for the last couple of years. But we felt that she’s not being challenged enough in the LSU environment to go to the next level in her education. It started with a 2 hour introduction on the first week, and then gradually in...

Autistic Aphorisms

A blog dedicated to the task of transforming autism into that self it truly is. Tuesday, January 17, 2017. I have finished pulling together another book, this one called Concerto for Intelligence. It consists of eight essays, all of which I believe saw early versions in this blog. For the book, the essays have been edited somewhat, and in some cases expanded upon, with the intent of making them a little more readable and informative. The easy and inexpensive way to read Concerto for Intelligence. I would...
