Gonna get there. | autobiographically

https://autobiographically.wordpress.com/2013/01/16/gonna-get-there

A few stories, building up to a life. Or a life, broken down into a few stories. January 16, 2013. The family next door is being totally wild – running around, screaming, laughing, thumping-thumping-thumping. I am happy that they seem to be enjoying themselves, but honestly, they’re driving me nuts. I cannot wait to move. Which is happening, in eleven days, ready or not. I don’t actually know where we’re moving, as the house stuff is. I can’t wait:. To have a backyard. Oh, how I have missed grilled food.

Birthing baby Ryan. | autobiographically

https://autobiographically.wordpress.com/2013/03/27/birthing-baby-ryan

A few stories, building up to a life. Or a life, broken down into a few stories. March 27, 2013. I got home around 10 and breathed a sigh of relief – I’d had little gas in my car when I left West Philly to go to King of Prussia, and I hadn’t been able to find a gas station on the way back. I was certain that I’d find myself stranded on the side of the highway, 37 weeks pregnant and out of gas. I didn’t move for a minute because this. could. not. be. happening. That baby was under. We knew that this would...

What I’m doing with my life. | autobiographically

https://autobiographically.wordpress.com/2014/11/14/what-im-doing-with-my-life

A few stories, building up to a life. Or a life, broken down into a few stories. What I’m doing with my life. November 14, 2014. Last night, at 10 pm, Jason finished watching a movie and came into the dining room, where I was eating a late dinner of grilled cheese and red wine. 8220;Why can’t we just provide everyone with a quality education? 8221; he asked. I looked at my knitting project next to me and realized with some sadness that I was not going to be touching it for the remainder of the night.

Back to the grind. | autobiographically

https://autobiographically.wordpress.com/2014/11/17/back-to-the-grind

A few stories, building up to a life. Or a life, broken down into a few stories. Back to the grind. November 17, 2014. It’s one of those exhaustions that makes me feel like I want to cry. All of the time. It’s been a dreadful morning. Cold. Rainy. Monday. We are trying to transition Ryan into his crib, and it’s not been going well. I can’t blame the kid – who wants to sleep on their own after twenty months of cuddling overnight? At 7:30, he woke up – and the sitter was there. I so wanted some time with h...

Starting the end of grad school. | autobiographically

A few stories, building up to a life. Or a life, broken down into a few stories. Starting the end of grad school. January 16, 2013. This week, I am working on conference proposals – the hardest part is really which piece to include! I thought having the dissertation would make this easier, but there are so many different topics that I could take up for this fifteen-minute presentation. Ack. From → Uncategorized. Larr; Gonna get there. Researching myself as researcher. →. Leave one →. It always amazes me ...

kumatage (reflections): In Quest of Ordinary

http://rum-blin.blogspot.com/2012/12/in-quest-of-ordinary.html

In Quest of Ordinary. October 2012; better living through chemistry. When you're a kid, all you want to do is fit in, be unremarkable, ordinary. Day of my young life was a bad hair day with my kind of hair. So I'm letting my straight, shiny hair grow back out, and I'll cut it short and curly for our next cruise. I'll go wash-and-wear, and just be my unfiltered self. (and save both money and water, too! Posted by Dan N Jaye. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Adventures of Sonador (Melissa). I'd like to ...

kumatage (reflections): Summary: 2012

http://rum-blin.blogspot.com/2013/01/summary-2012.html

Got this great list of questions from friend RoseAnn's blog. 1 What did you do in 2012 that you’d never done before? 2 Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I only made one resolution last year - to read at least one nonfiction book every month to keep my brain from turning to jello in retirement. (Mostly kept, I read 11 nonfiction books last year) No resolutions this year, but see the preceding post. 3 Did anyone close to you give birth? 8 What was your biggest ...

kumatage (reflections): June 2012

http://rum-blin.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

It's hot. It's sticky-icky humid Washington in summertime hot, and the aircon can't keep up. And I'm sitting here, dripping, and basically waiting for evening when it cools down. Waiting for the day to be over. What's wrong with that? To have an extra day before (whatever-it-was) was due. Or my friend whose husband has only a few more months to live, I'm sure she would gratefully take this day, sticky-icky temperature and all, and add it to his dwindling supply if she could. Or at least, on my attitude?

kumatage (reflections): Embracing Winter

http://rum-blin.blogspot.com/2012/09/embracing-winter.html

The one married to the guy who boasts that the only ice he's seen since 2008 is in his glass of rum? We decided to hang out in Annapolis this year for a couple of logical reasons. I wanted a long period with supertrainer Jen to get my back back into shape so I could, you know, walk. Normally. And we'd needed a few months to let the bank accounts rebound after the excess spending of the last glorious winter in St Augustine. I don't have a log cabin, or woods full of maple trees. And I know that winter...

The Age of Aquarius: Iron Girl 2012

http://theageofaquarius.blogspot.com/2011/10/iron-girl-2012.html

The Age of Aquarius. Sunday, October 30, 2011. I was working on putting my training schedule together on Thursday for Iron Girl this year and while I was doing that, the email notice of the earlier registration dropped in my inbox! SO excited to do this for the second time and I am incredibly motivated to shave some time off my transitions and run portion from last year. Last year I only started training 6 weeks before the race but still managed to finish with 30 minutes to spare and a medal in hand!

The Age of Aquarius: October 2008

http://theageofaquarius.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

The Age of Aquarius. Wednesday, October 29, 2008. Today I come across this item. Http:/ videogames.yahoo.com/feature/microsoft-offers-reward-for-missing-xbox-gamer/1260470. And all I could think was "damage control". We are a game cube/box/wii free zone here and for a simple reason. One look at the vacant stares of my kids when they played at friends houses and the resulting "attitude" was enough to ban it from our home permanently. I am sure there are many children who can pick it up and put it down.

A friend is an anti-death-penalty activist; her guy was executed today. It's complicated. Do not think you didn't make a difference. In the unchanged world, he lived, and he died, that is all. Because of you, he was loved before he died. That is everything. You cannot fight darkness with more darkness. You can only fight darkness with light. You cannot fight death with more death. You can only fight death with love. Posted by Dan N Jaye. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Adventures of Sonador (Melissa). It's b...

Playlist for Dan's birthday included: The Beatles' "When I'm 64" (of course! Thank you Daniel S. for the mp3 version) and Jimmy Buffett's "I'm Growing Older But Not Up." He rarely seems to want frivolous stuff, so its been cool to see that while we've been here, he's been pretty excited about pirate history (blog post coming! kumatage (reflections): New Year's Un-Resolutions

http://rum-blin.blogspot.com/2013/01/new-years-un-resolutions.html

In my 20s, when the possibilities were infinite and future was wide an green and forever stretching before me, I had definite goals for my life; things like “Have a meaningful career,” “Find a forever lover,” “Raise a child,” “Live in a great place.” Some were achieved, some fell away. Big stuff I want in my life. No worries about money. Opportunities for engagement with people. Being able to go for long leisurely walks and maintaining my physical therapy exercise regimen. Being in touch with Nature.

A few stories, building up to a life. Or a life, broken down into a few stories. Momentum and infectious energy. January 13, 2016. This fall, I learned two important things from my new colleagues. First, my colleague Dr. Barbara Ornstein reminded me that the joy of reading is infectious – one of the greatest motivators in getting students to read is having a teacher who herself loves reading and who enthusiastically shares about her reading with her students. Were my students reading? The simple answer i...

The object of autobiography

The object of autobiography. A life that wants to live. December 20, 2015. If I never become what I am meant to be, but always remain what I am not, I shall spend eternity contradicting myself by being at once something and nothing, a life that wants to live and is dead, a death that wants to be dead and cannot quite achieve its own death because it still has to exist. 8217; — Thomas Merton. Writing is how I hold on to the things I want to let go. On December 2 of this year, unexpectedly, another person ...

Autobiographical Reflections | Inspiration & life lessons learned raising a son, who happens to have Down syndrome, and two daughters, who happen to be twins

Inspiration and life lessons learned raising a son, who happens to have Down syndrome, and two daughters, who happen to be twins. Yesterday, Wil and I went for a ride to the vet with the kitties. He sat in the car with their carrier perched on his lap, talking to the kittens through the vents, their purr boxes motoring strong. The carrier softly bumping back and forth between us as we made our way to the door. I’m carrying the kitties! Yes you are, big boy! The world moves really fast for our kids. T...
