The day we get to band our Purple Martins is the high point of the season. It makes up for all the observations and nest checks and messy nest changes of the last weeks. This young bird is nearly ready to fledge. On banding day we still had one nest with eggs in it! Our colony on Knox Preserve. Fresh nesting material provided.

Pretty much any kind of wildlife intrigues me. I am not afraid of much but have a healthy respect for things that bite or sting. I am grateful we do not have venomous snakes to worry about in my area. Tent Caterpillars are easy to spot in their web nests. This photo was taken in June not January. Photographs by Beth Sullivan.

A few weeks ago, we emerged, hot and sweaty and dirty from a work effort on Knox preserve. We were met by a woman and a young child looking for a place to spend some time hiking and found themselves on Wilcox Road, parked behind us and planning to walk into the preserve. The Osprey on Paffard Marsh benefit from the protected land.
