http://ironkidd.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Musings From The Back Of The Pack. Wednesday, January 28, 2015. December 25, 2014. It's 7:30 am on Christmas Day and I'm standing at the beginning of a paved trail in San Antonio, Texas. With two other runners and a large poodle. A man counts down from 10 and says "Go! After a few minutes of easy running and chit-chat, I pull ahe. Ad Six miles later I realize I'm winning this thing! Leading the entire field! Of two, that is. Everyone else must have slept in. How the hell did I get here? Three weeks befor...

IronKidd: February 2015
http://ironkidd.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Musings From The Back Of The Pack. Sunday, February 15, 2015. Happy New Year, a little late. 2014 was the year I. Ran two 50Ks and two marathons, gave the Bay Swim and Nanticoke another shot, and watched Carol finish her first 50 miler! Here's my 2014 medal haul:. Now onward to 2015. I started 2015 doing what I love the most- being outside! I decided to avoid the usual New Year's traditions and get away from it all. Named for frontiersman Simon Kenton (apparent friend of Daniel Boone), it was a small hic...

IronKidd: Reston 1 + 2 = 3 Mile Swim
http://ironkidd.blogspot.com/2015/06/reston-1-2-3-mile-swim.html
Musings From The Back Of The Pack. Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Reston 1 2 = 3 Mile Swim. May 23, 2015. Another swim I said I wouldn't do this year.but fear of FOMO got the best of me and I caved. A search for other open water swims this weekend turned up nothing in the area. So, Jim McDonnell it was! The 1 miler was mostly a warm up for the 2 miler and it took me a while to get in the groove. I felt tired and seemed to be going in slow motion. WTH? I felt much better during the 2 miler. Hallelujah! Looking t...

IronKidd: May 2014
http://ironkidd.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Musings From The Back Of The Pack. Wednesday, May 14, 2014. I just love hopping in my car at the crack of dawn and driving across the Bay Bridge as the sun comes up. Checking out the water below, I picture myself swimming a perfect line between the two spans. From the bridge it's Highway 50 all the way to the turnoff for Nanticoke. Could I conquer the current and, for once, finish the full 3 miles? As usual, it was a roll of the dice. Maybe the third try would be the charm. Here are the pertinent stats:.

IronKidd: Not Another Nanticoke!
http://ironkidd.blogspot.com/2015/06/not-another-nanticoke.html
Musings From The Back Of The Pack. Thursday, June 18, 2015. May 3, 2015. Yes, another Nanticoke. I had been planning to skip Nanticoke this year, but.well.where else would I get the open water practice? However, I wouldn't be suffering through the 3 miler this time. In keeping with my 2015 theme of Setting Myself Up For Success, I opted for the 2 miler instead. Figured not DNFing that F'ing swim just might be a good confidence booster for the Bay. Adding to the Nanticoke fun this year was Carol, AKA STUR!

IronKidd: July 2014
http://ironkidd.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Musings From The Back Of The Pack. Sunday, July 20, 2014. How to describe the Mad Marathon? Let's see.scenic, hilly, hard, absolutely mad! The first 17 miles of the course seemed to be all uphill. Actually, there was a two mile downhill thrown in there, but sheesh! I hardly noticed it. The race was held in Vermont's Mad River Valley, with all its barns-in-the-country-charm. Why, even the path to the outdoor expo was a veritable floral showcase! We were in cow country, for sure! From the expo we headed up...

IronKidd: Party in Paw Paw
http://ironkidd.blogspot.com/2015/06/party-in-paw-paw.html
Musings From The Back Of The Pack. Wednesday, June 17, 2015. Party in Paw Paw. February 14, 2015. Paw Paw, West Virginia - you just gotta love the name! And in fact, the name is the reason I chose Paw Paw for my weekend running adventure on Valentine's Day. Such a funny name, I just had to check it out. Buuut the thing about the Paw Paw Tunnel is - look how frickin' scary it looks! All boarded up with a single door- pitch black darkness for half a mile. I hadn't thought about being scared when I plan...

http://ironkidd.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Musings From The Back Of The Pack. Tuesday, December 31, 2013. So Long, 2013. At the start of 2013 I was trail running and training for the Phunt 50K - -seems like forever ago! Well, without a doubt, completing my first 50 mile ultra was the highlight of my year. 2013 was also the year I DNF'd the Bay Swim. No worries, I'll be back for redemption in 2014! Gets in this year! So farewell, 2013. It's been fun, but there are even better days ahead in 2014. Let the endless lap swimming begin! As the frenzy ki...

IronKidd: October 2014
http://ironkidd.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Musings From The Back Of The Pack. Monday, October 27, 2014. October 11, 2014. After hundreds of miles and months of running, it was time to cash it all in at our "A" race: The Can Lake 50 Ultras! I blasted off Friday morning, so excited to get to Can Lake and meet up with Team Rabbit. And honorary rabbitear N2 (AKA Thumper. Arriving mid afternoon, I made a pit stop at Vine Valley to spend a few minutes sitting lakeside, contemplating the race to come - and the journey to get here. Could I make it happen?
