finding home on the road
December | 2016 | A Very Small Nest
https://averysmallnest.wordpress.com/2016/12
A Very Small Nest. Finding home on the road. The Light Within Us. December 16, 2016. December 16, 2016. Today marks two weeks since we arrived in Vermont. It has snowed about seven times….not heavy snowfalls, but enough so you know that it has snowed again, and everything is kept clean and pretty. I wanted snow, a fact which people keep reminding me, as in “You wanted this,” implying, “Don”t you dare complain! So here we are, ‘reverse snowbirds’, spending the winter in Vermont! To complain about the weat...
Finding My Voice | A Very Small Nest
https://averysmallnest.wordpress.com/2017/01/09/finding-my-voice
A Very Small Nest. Finding home on the road. January 9, 2017. For the last year and seven months, I have been documenting our journey and my reflections along the way. Now our traveling has come to a lull. We think in terms of months, rather than days or weeks. It has become difficult to keep blogging, because there is less new material, as I have mentioned before. Now, it is time for my writing to take a different turn. Simply put: Evil Power = Dangerous. Senator McCarthy was in office from 1947 to 1957...

All Is Not Lost | A Very Small Nest
https://averysmallnest.wordpress.com/2016/11/16/all-is-not-lost
A Very Small Nest. Finding home on the road. All Is Not Lost. November 16, 2016. A month by the sea. November. We are staying in a little cottage in Ventnor, New Jersey just a block and a half from the ocean. I looked forward to this, because I like the seaside in the fall. Few people, deserted beaches, fresh cool air to breathe. The first week was exactly as we expected. Relaxing, envigorating, peaceful. First of all, what do I know? Secondly, I have family members on both sides of the divide. I hav...

Life's a Beach!: The Faux Ruins
http://lifewithbeck.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-faux-ruins.html
Thursday, July 30, 2015. Our first visit to Isla Mujeres, we may have thought this structure and wall around the area were Mayan ruins - or at least very old structures. All I can say is. Recently I read a comment on a Facebook message board referring to this as a Mayan ruin, so I thought I'd further muddle the issue on this blog. I snap a few photos each trip of the ever-evolving scene. The boat blocking the path has been moved (or pushed back? But now the plants and birds have taken over the scene.
Life's a Beach!: March 2015
http://lifewithbeck.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 29, 2015. In all my wisdom gained from 62 years on Earth, I've finally come to the conclusion that life is all about Perspective with a capital P. This lovely ancient Mayan goddess on the Isla Mujeres municipal building looks wonderfully proportioned from the proper angle, but when shot from a skewed angle - rather badonkadonk-ish. For me, travel provides a whole new perspective on life. Maybe the proper perspective. I realize my values get skewed at home. Badonkadonk-ish. Sometimes you ben...
Life's a Beach!: Sunday Neighborhood Walk
http://lifewithbeck.blogspot.com/2015/07/sunday-neighborhood-walk.html
Sunday, July 12, 2015. I'm trying to reform my lazy ways the final days of our three weeks on Isla Mujeres with a morning walk through the colonias before the heat and humidity of the day descends. Currently at 2:30 pm the temp is 90 degrees, but the real feel is 105, so walks take place early! This house was a landmark for us back in the day when we rode bikes through the colonias. I think the paint's still the same color. I first noticed the house because I was fascinated by family altars. Teachers to ...

Life's a Beach!: Sunday Sopa
http://lifewithbeck.blogspot.com/2015/07/sunday-sopa.html
Sunday, July 26, 2015. It sounds crazy I got hooked on Azteca Soup from Amigos in July when the temp was 90 degrees (real feel 105)! I hate to admit it, but we hadn't eaten at Amigos since 2005. After noticing friends repeatedly seated there in the evening, we decided it was time to revisit our restaurant choices. We made up for lost time this trip with repeated visits. Back in 2004, we always ordered the Roquefort Steak. Craig tried it again and yum! The soup also comes with the. You gotta try it! Trave...
Life's a Beach!: Da' Beach
http://lifewithbeck.blogspot.com/2015/07/da-beach.html
Saturday, July 25, 2015. You'll be relieved to know da' beach is still there. The sand is white and the water is a beautiful shade of pale turquoise, but I have a confession. Craig and I really don't love going to Playa Norte, especially in the hot summer months when the sun is so intense. I do love swimming in the warm Caribe water in June/July, but neither of us enjoy sitting on the beach. Water After I've had my dip, Craig steps in for a few minutes to cool off and we leave. We go early before the cro...
Life's a Beach!: Everyday People
http://lifewithbeck.blogspot.com/2015/07/everyday-people.html
Sunday, July 19, 2015. A malatero delivering a shipment of flowers early Thursday morning (probably to a friend who arranges flowers for weddings). Hector serenading us at dinner one night. A local woman protecting herself from the hot summer sun with an umbrella. A Chiapas girl arranging the merchandise early one morning on Medina. A vendor preparing his orange juice cart for business that day. A malatero delivering purified water garrafons. A little girl purchasing a fruity treat from a street vendor.
Life's a Beach!: Muelle 7
http://lifewithbeck.blogspot.com/2015/07/muelle-7.html
Tuesday, July 21, 2015. People back home in Arizona often ask me how we can stand to eat Mexican food everyday for a month when we're on Isla Mujeres. Say what? This lovely warm June evening, we were in. Isla Mujeres, but we weren't dining at our usual haunt down at the docks - Bally Hoo. Instead we decided to stroll the sidewalk a few doors south on the Rueda Medina waterfront and dine at another favorite - Muelle 7. (In case you're wondering, Muelle 7 translates to Pier 7.). Life's a Beach!: Isla Wedding Limo
http://lifewithbeck.blogspot.com/2015/07/isla-wedding-limo.html
Sunday, July 5, 2015. Sorry I missed the bride and groom! I would definitely love to see how they planned out the rest of the wedding and reception. Heck, I’d like to see the bride fit there in a traditional wedding dress. Haha! Anyway, this is a great idea for those weddings that occur in resorts and hotels, and you probably won’t have to go rent out a limo for that short drive at the end of reception for the bride and groom. Thanks for sharing! Evan Blake @ Antique Limo Of Indy. View my complete profile.

A Very Small Holding
A Very Small Holding. The Elliffs journey into the good life. A very merry christmas. To avoid all the work involved in preparing a Christmas Day meal we opted to have our family lunch at the local public house. At the end of the week we attended the funeral for Katie’s step-grandfather, while my parents shielded our children from this somber event. A very tidy workshop. My parents made another visit to our home in time for our scheduled Christmas Day lunch at the pub. My father immediately found mor...
a very small life
A very small life. Saturday, September 6, 2014. No small talk here. I'm jumping right in to my first blog post. It is September and I am wearing a sweater. Today while wasting time on Facebook I discovered my friend Amanda's blog: teamstruckmeyer.blogspot.com. Currently it is all about baby news. Which I guess is okay considering she is mere weeks into first-time parenthood. And admittedly her library-themed nursery is inspired. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). No small talk here.

A Very Small Microphone. Twins Killings: Anatomy of an Epic Failure. May 18, 2011 at 9:25 pm ( Twins. The question now becomes: How on earth did this happen? How did a team that won 94 games and was legitimately one of the best teams in MLB last year get. Sure, there’s been some injuries and almost certainly some bad luck. But it takes more than that to go from one of the best teams in baseball to literally the worst. Them, the Twins have put themselves at a massive disadvantage. Horrible Move #1: The Tw...

The Sure Thing
Monday, June 26, 2006. I actually meant to post that, um, post, here. It's a blog started by my good friend, Silverfuk Cosmo - extreme hacker and roller blader extraordinaire. Actually he is neither of those things, but he is funny, as are the rest of the contributors. Prepare your minds to be blown. Posted by Alexis C. Jolly at 5:16 PM. Monday, April 10, 2006. This is the last of these, I promise. In the meantime, this is all I've got. So, for purposes of dramatic tension, first, the response:. I work f...

A great WordPress.com site. Tofu Popcorn Chick’n Bites. August 4, 2015. Its been a while since I had a chance to jump on a normal computer (not just my phone) and share a great recipe blog with you all 🙂. Last night I made some DELICIOUS Tofu Popcorn Chick’n Bites and they are too good to keep all to myself (not that I would anyway – you know I LOVE sharing all good food with you). I really hope you enjoy them! Lets get right into it! Let sit for at least 10 minutes. 8211; Break apart the tofu into chuc...
