The Flying Camba: November 2014
http://theflyingcamba.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 21, 2014. It starts with yet another early morning departure from Dublin Airport, a tall americano. At Starbucks and an air traffic control situation, which forces us to sit on the tarmac for an extra fifty minutes prior to finally receive clearance to roll out Southbound to warmer lands. I am travelling with a work colleague, both of us Portuguese-language proficient and ready for a rapid visit to Lusitania. Colourful tiles which have now become a symbol of the country adorn the facades...

The Flying Camba: February 2015
http://theflyingcamba.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 27, 2015. Indochina Expedition: Untainted Burma -. I leave the most tedious travel companion I've had and walk down the road, starting a previously planned long return journey to the big city. Despite being sold a 'VIP direct service', I am told to board an old and dusty coach, departing almost twenty minutes delayed. Having bypassed the perks of public transport in Myanmar on my journey into the Golden Rock, I can instantly predict an authentic experience to be had within the next hours.

The Flying Camba: March 2014
http://theflyingcamba.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 29, 2014. Maltesers (Part 2) -. My body feels well-rested after a long sleep of nearly 11 hours. The rays of strong sunshine through clear blue skies break through the big glass windows and cold thick stone walls. It's Saturday and the locals are slowly waking up, having coffee in their balconies enjoying a sunny wintry day. In front of me, sitting on top of a hill stands M'dina , Malta's former capital and a place rich in history. A few roundabouts and a rather steep climb, I reach the t...

The Flying Camba: June 2014
http://theflyingcamba.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 28, 2014. Beaches and Glaciers: Brazil -. I walk through the empty streets of a sleepy Portobello. The quietness of the fresh spring Saturday morning is only broken by a few rather drunk party animals ending another night of pub-crawling. Opposite reality to Dublin Airport, bubbling with people taking the batch of early morning departures. Three movies, five sitcoms and a little nap later, we start our descent surrounded by the Cantareira Mountains and into the concrete jungle of the large...

The Flying Camba: December 2014
http://theflyingcamba.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 30, 2014. The Baltic Adventure: Latvia -. Only an hour after crossing the border, the buzz of the Latvian capital is seen as the bus enters busy motorways, roundabouts and bridges. Apartment blocks are everywhere to be seen until a sharp needle-shaped building, which is the main TV station tower, announces the arrival into Riga, the largest city in the Baltics with over one million inhabitants in its metropolitan area. It is dry and no snow can be seen, despite the wind chill coming fro...

Tuesday, March 3, 2015. Indochina Expedition: Malaysia Truly Asia -. After many years of failed attempts and diverted itineraries, I find myself descending over palm-tree covered hills on approach into Kuala Lumpur International Airport, main gateway to Malaysia. Economical disparities between ASEAN countries is instantly experienced at one of its most extreme levels, having left the poorest end of this country alliance in Yangon, and landing in the modern capital of Malaysia. Refreshed by the strong air...

The Flying Camba: May 2015
http://theflyingcamba.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 23, 2015. Istanbul, not Constantinople (Part 2) -. A marathon of history overload continues in the early morning, as I am being awoken by the morning prayer, loudly breaking through the peaceful streets of Taksim. The temperature rapidly rises whilst I make my way down the crowded streets surrounding Galata Tower, through the Galata bridge, and steeply climbing away from the Golden Horn almost immediately finding myself lost in the heaving streets surrounding the Grand Bazaar. I later enjoy...
