Avrel Seale's Blog. About Avrel’s Blog. Avrel Seale grew up in McAllen, Texas, and earned a bachelor’s of science in radio-TV-film from The University of Texas at Austin in 1989. Returning to the Rio Grande Valley, he became a newspaper reporter and a columnist for the McAllen daily The Monitor. While simultaneously freelance writing for area chambers of commerce and reviewing restaurants for Texas Monthly. In 1992, he returned to Austin and became assistant editor of the UT alumni magazine, The Alcalde.
