July 25, 2011. Visiting Pompeii, Witnessing Life Frozen in Time. In an effort to maintain a sense of their city’s glory days and move forward at the same time, Romans have built modern-day buildings around ancient ones. However, in Pompeii, a city in Campania (Rome is part of Lazio), not far from Naples, an entire community is preserved. The UF crew took a day trip to the site last weekend. September 25, 2011. Greetings from Gainesville: Real pizza, please? Well, it’s safe to say I officially miss Italy. If you’d have told me that about a month ago, I wouldn’t have believed you. I miss the nonchalance of the Italian workforce. Everyone here’s so worked up all the time. In the United States, it seems for most people that work comes first, family second. I miss walking everywhere and turning down a street you’ve never been down before and seeing something — or someone — new. August 10, 2011.
