Driving so long is tiring; the darkness only makes it worse. Even the cool, dry air blowing through the windows isn’t enough to stave it off, and I’d rather not feel the drowsy pull before I find another bed and set of doors. The sand pit is covered with scuz, where wet; chunky, thick, and synthetic. Not like Florida coast sand. Not even Atlantic side. We arrange the grains into city lumps. You’re kidding me, slurred through my sleeping lips. Somewhere in the direction of my left shoe was the television. Oh thank ya Lawd, thank ya Lawd Almighty! My ears were reminded of their purpose, and the flood of reality came pouring into my brain via the blaring and broken television speakers. A raw yawn pressed my chest deep into the ground.
