Gain the world, lose your soul. While many readers could look at the ending of this novel and be deterred by the coincidental happiness, Dickens took an effective route towards ending his serial novel. Especially with a vocal and opinionated following like Dickens, his decision to fulfill the desires of every reader makes for a novel that is successful while still being provoking. June 4, 2014.
