Ladder of Mercy: January 2015
http://ladderofmercy.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
How to be Brave. I'm struck today, as my fingers type out the words once more, writing them in my memory and not just on the screen, by the boldness of John the Baptist. We think of him as the one who baptized Jesus, who preached in the wilderness by the river, who called Israel to repentance. But did you remember he preached to Herod? John said, right to the hardened king's face, You shouldn't be keeping company with your brother's wife. In fact, you need to stop it right away. The piano students starte...

Ladder of Mercy: Garden Friends
http://ladderofmercy.blogspot.com/2015/04/garden-friends.html
My mom e-mailed today to tell me it would have been her dad's birthday. The photo she attached shows him kneeling in his garden, face turned up, cowboy had securely placed, surrounded by rows of good things to eat. He died thirty-five years ago. I'm not thirty-five yet, which means I never met him. That's a lot of corn meal. I hear about how he bought ladybugs to come into the garden and eat the aphids. I've been glad to see more ladybugs in the garden this year, but I haven't bought any. They chose the ...

http://ladderofmercy.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Six Years into a Great Idea. Somehow it got to be almost the end of December- two days before Christmas, no less- and I haven't been around these parts for a long time. Can I just say I'm a music teacher and so is my husband and one pre-Thanksgiving program and five Christmas programs and another Christmas play later I'm still thinking maybe one of these days I'll get out our own Christmas music to listen to some quiet evening? Have I told that story here before? These twin brothers had a reputation....

Ladder of Mercy: Music Lessons from the Plumber
http://ladderofmercy.blogspot.com/2015/04/music-lessons-from-plumber.html
Music Lessons from the Plumber. Maybe this is terrible, but I secretly look forward to having the plumbers come. Not because I desire a problem- no, I don't have a lot of time for extras of those. But these guys are hard-working, friendly people, and I always enjoy their attention to courtesy as they take care of life's basics around the house. I think that's what one of my favorite uncles is like as a plumber (I'm allowed to have more than one favorite uncle, right? Making Music Takes Discipline. That's...

Ladder of Mercy: How to Write a Meaningful Thank-you Note
http://ladderofmercy.blogspot.com/2013/01/how-to-write-meaningful-thank-you-note.html
How to Write a Meaningful Thank-you Note. Do you thrive on words of affirmation, like my mom and husband do? Or do you have friends and family who would work for compliments no matter how small the paycheck? Chances are, there are people in your life whose love language is words of affirmation, and your relationship with them would become more profound by a simple expression of your appreciation. What about that acts-of-service person who has been doing simple but amazing things for you for a decade?

Wildflower Morning Recipes: Zucchini Patties - Gluten-free, Vegan, for the Freezer
http://wildflowermorningrecipes.blogspot.com/2011/09/zucchini-patties-gluten-free-vegan-for.html
Monday, September 5, 2011. Zucchini Patties - Gluten-free, Vegan, for the Freezer. We have been having a great summer of camping, and cooking, and eating, and canning, and more. We've made some great food, but I haven't taken the time to post about it. Our garden is producing large quantities of food right now, and we are eating it as fast as we can, and preserving the rest. Zucchini Patties - Gluten-free, Vegan. One batch made averaged around 63 patties. 5 batches made 316 patties. 1 tsp garlic powder.
