A Year in Auckland: Malcontented

http://ayearinauckland.blogspot.com/2011/07/it-was-one-of-those-days.html

A Year in Auckland. Musings of a woman with a New Zealand work visa. Wednesday, July 13, 2011. It was one of those days. The alarm clock rang several hours before I was ready. The memory of the warm bed remained there even as I got ready to run for the train. I think I left part of my brain on the pillow, for I was still in a daze at the start of my day. I yearned for coffee. Today's lesson was about grace. None of these patients. NOT ONE complained. Most of them thanked me. And I thought I. If so, how?

A Year in Auckland: 9 weeks.

http://ayearinauckland.blogspot.com/2011/07/9-weeks.html

A Year in Auckland. Musings of a woman with a New Zealand work visa. Wednesday, July 20, 2011. Is it possible that I have a mere nine weeks remaining in my one year contract to work in NZ? A year. It seems contrite to say that it has flown past, as at times, it truly has crawled. In reminiscing, I understand better the depths of my naivte upon arrival. Can it have been any other way? What has it meant? Has my presence had an impact on medicine here? My intent, to lead by example, has it been enough?

A Year in Auckland: November 2010

A Year in Auckland. Musings of a woman with a New Zealand work visa. Monday, November 22, 2010. Interior of the Coromandel. Friday evening and the R5 (car) was packed with wetsuit, running gear, books, and one change of clothes. My destination? Pauanui and the Tairoa River. Pauanui: Pacific and the Tairoa River meet. Beach and the hill for which the town in named in the distance that guards Pauanui. Across the bay with their cooler. The search for the perfect swimming beach continued. But by paddle, peda...

A Year in Auckland: Vacation, Italian style.

http://ayearinauckland.blogspot.com/2011/06/vacation-italian-style.html

A Year in Auckland. Musings of a woman with a New Zealand work visa. Sunday, June 26, 2011. Vacation, Italian style. Reading on the patio @ il Baglio, Sicily with Morgan. Ten days, sandwiched between four days of the longest travel days I have yet to experience, the privilege of travel has been mine, yet again. From Auckland to Sydney, Hong Kong, Rome and finally Palermo,Sicily, I wended my way to a week long family reunion followed by four days in Rome with Morgan and Caleb. As with many places in Rome ...

A Year in Auckland: March 2011

http://ayearinauckland.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

A Year in Auckland. Musings of a woman with a New Zealand work visa. Sunday, March 6, 2011. Pre-event meeting and safety briefing, following two minutes of silence. Look at the guy behind me :) Simon says touch your ear. Brandon braved the water sans wetsuit, but the water was a lovely 72 degrees or so. Saturday was lovely. Sunny, warm, and the air was not humid; the water, clear and warm. Over 600 swimmers gathered for an event that had been devised, planned and executed in the space of 2 days! Last wee...

A Year In Asheville

A Year In Asheville. In a world gone mad, two gay guys from Los Angeles trek across America to set up hearth and home in Asheville, North Carolina. Thursday, September 17, 2009. 8221; Completely missing the fact that I was moving for her benefit. Or maybe we just didn’t go to the angry salad bars there. There were never any women at all around the Ingles salad bar, but that might be because it was mostly a meat bar. Wondering where the jerk who takes all the grilled tofu is? A Year in Auckland

A Year in Auckland. Musings of a woman with a New Zealand work visa. Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Draft of prior blog posting found. What will be the image, the aroma, the feel of Samoa that will linger when I recall the past week? The banyan tree with a sleeping platform and the canopy walkway made seemingly from ladders lashed end to end with wood planking in between. The chip sealed roads with no signs, just an arrow hinting at the possibility of a turn. Perhaps I will remember the people. Women with b...

They also seem to agree on the general causes of these changes, which are many and include everything from war and political instability to the ever-increasing prevalence of western media. My year in Austria

July 4th, 2008 (01:27 pm). Now, it's the 4th of July, and that means, I'm home in a week. The last week has been busy. I was in Venice a couple of weeks ago (I don't think I wrote about that. sorry! It's always like that with them, but on wednesday it was a really cool goodbye. For my school friends, I have a request. please, SOMEONE tell me if they...

A Year in a Yawl

A Year in a Yawl. A true adventure tale for all ages! Not long after Joshua Slocum completed his historic circumnavigation, four young men from Michigan set out on another adventure which had never been done before: the Great Circle Route of the Eastern U.S. They built a boat, traveled down the Mississippi, around Florida, up the Eastern Seaboard, and back through the Erie Canal, and home to the Great Lakes.
