Spring Equinox | A Year On The Farm
https://ayearonthefarm.wordpress.com/2013/03/20/spring-equinox
A Year On The Farm. The story of our farm, season by season. Laquo; 2012 the warmest year on record in United States by far. March 20, 2013 by Julia. Spring has sprung, and farm life is busy. It has been busy for a while, really, with calving season now almost finished. It has been a good season, with only three losses so far and well over a hundred calves born. One mama who had twins last year– and nursed both– did it again! We are quite proud of that mama! Cocoa, the mama donkey. Rosemary and lemon balm.

Just a blog about living. Laquo; Breaks and Big Brothers. Garden Report – The Good, The Bad and The Extra Crispy. August 4, 2012 by Daisy. Just like everywhere else it seems, we are in desperate need of some rain. Over the last couple of weeks we have gotten two or three decent showers, but before that it hadn’t rained since sometime in May, and even then it wasn’t much. Looking back at last year’s post on the same subject. I know a couple of dairy farmers who would sure appreciate it. And this is why...

I’ve always idolized my Big Brother – he’s been my hero since the day I was born – but now? Now I want to tell the world that this, this right here, is what it is all about. This is my strong, amazing Big Brother and I couldn’t be more proud of him.🙂. Later, kids.🙂. On July 29, 2012 at 7:36 pm. I do pop on fro...

Walks Under The Trees. A Walkabout / Nature Almanac From Northeast Iowa. Newer posts →. 31st Day of the Long Night Moon, 45 Winters. February 10, 2013. Out with my snowshoes again, trying to get as many outings in them as I can. Sometimes the snow doesn’t hang around here in Iowa very long. The wildlife was hidden from me mostly, but there was evidence of them taking water at the small open spots on the creek. Brave turkey in the photo above. 29th Day of the Long Night Moon, 45 Winters. A spirit will fade, at times. I believe I can trace the fading of mine to last fall when my father passed away, and shortly after that also decided it was time to find new homes for my horses. Since then, things have just been different. May we all find peace in the winds. View all posts by Brace →. September 30, 2013 at 5:58 pm.

Build your soil, kids, build your soil. Not exactly the verdant jungle it usually is by now. I’m in triage mode right now, only watering what desperately needs it since we have to get our water trucked to us. The more I look at it the weirder it gets. On the bright side, there’s zukes…. The remains of a deer, with lots of coyote tracks around. We enjoyed ourselves to the fullest. Ellie even had a smile.

A Year on the Farm
About "A Year On The Farm". Mixed in with the neighbour's herd. January 15, 2009. This is definitely not. The sort of thing you want to see on a hot summer's day; our cows wandering through a gap in the hedge to mingle in with the neighbour's herd! Our neighbour and us had to spend a couple of hours in the hot sun sorting through the herds and getting any strayers back onto the correct property. All-in-all it wasn't as bad as it could have been and was actually a good excuse for a chat. The bulls wouldn'...
