Arizona Backyard Eden

Thursday, October 20, 2016. Out with the old, in with the new. We continue to work on clearing out the raised beds and putting in fall plantings. Of our summer crops, the only ones still producing are eggplant and basil. I've mostly been planting broccoli transplants in these beds, with petunias planted around the perimeter. Containing screen shots of the article, along with additional pictures that were only available in the digital edition. Saturday, October 1, 2016. Thursday, September 1, 2016. I have...

Arizona Backyard Eden: February 2016

http://azbackyardeden.blogspot.com/2016_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 27, 2016. Peas with a mind of their own. Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.". I love edible-pod peas, but have had mixed success in growing them. They don't like the heat, and usually die out about the time everything else starts waking up. And they don't come in bush varieties, which I would prefer because it makes harvesting easier. Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Buds and blooms and beginnings. February 24, 2016. February 19, 2016.

Although most things are dying back, the roses have fully recovered from their summer slump and are blooming profusely once again. They too will need a regenerative pruning, which we usually do in January. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). December overview: Winter roses and regenerative p. Arizona Backyard Eden: Ten o'clock and 102 degrees

http://azbackyardeden.blogspot.com/2016/06/ten-oclock-and-102-degrees.html

Saturday, June 4, 2016. Ten o'clock and 102 degrees. June 4, 2016. Our Mid-Pride tree is full of nearly-ripe peaches. We neglected to thin this one as much as we did for the Desert Gold tree, but the peaches are actually larger. Go figure. This year, we're trying something new:using tulle bags (the kind used for wedding favors) in an attempt to protect the ripening peaches from the birds. This was a suggestion from someone in a gardening Facebook group. Which I've found to be very helpful.

Arizona Backyard Eden: March 2016

http://azbackyardeden.blogspot.com/2016_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, March 1, 2016. It's beginning to look a lot like spring. March 1, 2016. As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.". Today is "Super Tuesday" and the news on TV and social media is full of opinions and predictions, I think I'd rather spend time in our backyard. Gardening keeps me grounded. Royal Lee Cherry blossoms. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Its beginning to look a lot like spring. Arizona Fruit Growers Facebook Group.

Grow with God: A LIVING MESSAGE

http://sueraatjes.blogspot.com/2016/12/a-living-message.html

Thursday, December 15, 2016. When will he come, Grandfather? I hope very soon, my child," replied the bearded old man. Will he rule from the temple? We'll know that in God's time, son. Meanwhile, let's get back to your lessons. We must study the Scriptures so we'll be ready when he comes.". Sin and oppression ruled, and their only hope rested in the promised Messiah. They desperately needed God among them, in the flesh. Remember, Jesus is the Living Message. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I was born...

Grow with God: June 2016

http://sueraatjes.blogspot.com/2016_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 26, 2016. On a recent family reunion in San Diego, I had the extreme joy of watching our four children and their families enjoy the lovely beach of southern California. This is a favorite vacation spot for us- one we visited nearly forty years as a family. Now there were twenty of us! The photo above shows several young cousins following an uncle who taught them the basics of surfing and boogie boarding. That day, he was the favorite uncle. How would he instruct them to make good choices?

Monday, January 2, 2017. Resolutions, goals, promises. Whatever you call them, let me offer a few ideas:. Create a MISSION STATEMENT. For yourself for the new year- much like organizations or committees do to focus a team's goals. Make a list of PRIORITIES. What is important in your life? Remember: "People are more important than things."). List 2 or 3 GOALS. Make sure each priority and goal aligns with your mission statement. Review this every 3 or 4 months to see how you're doing. Grow with God: April 2016

http://sueraatjes.blogspot.com/2016_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 28, 2016. Times have changed. I remember feeling guilty when I resorted to reading the Cliff Note version of a novel rather than finishing the real book. As a lit major, I never stayed on top of the overwhelming reading assignments. If I bought Cliff Notes, I kept them hidden from my Old Eagle Eye English teacher. They saved me many times. Hebrews, chapter eleven, is a "Cliff Notes" version of the Old Testament. The key words of this chapter are, ". .by faith. The people of Israel. In tim...

Grow with God: CHRISTMAS CRIB

http://sueraatjes.blogspot.com/2016/12/christmas-crib.html

Tuesday, December 20, 2016. I own a Christmas book with pictures of different nativity sets from around the world. Each beautiful creche. Reflects facial features and costumes indigenous to the country of the artist. The manger scene from Mexico shows Mary and Joseph with dark skin and the lovely brown eyes of the Mexican people. The one from Sweden portrays Mary with blond hair and fair skin, while the set from Nigeria features dark-skinned people, adorned with ornate African headwear. I was born and ra...

Tuesday, November 1, 2016. Civility and Righteous Living. My heart aches when I look at what we've become as a people. Civility. Seem like old-fashioned, irrelevant concepts. Monday, December 26, 2016. My Favorite Day of the Year. MY FAVORITE DAY OF THE YEAR! Sue Faris Raatjes©. Was my favorite day of the year when my four children were young. The frenzy of our holiday season looked like this:. Shopping, wrapping, decorating. Why do we do that to ourselves? We cram everything into the three weeks after Thanksgiving. Holidays are fun and memories are important, but often they drain a family. In case of fire, I get people and pets out first, then my signed. She connects with re...
