Living Wide Awake: March 2011
http://livewideawake.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
March 13, 2011. Well, I am back from Haiti. I was right. A week wasn't enough. What I saw there, what I felt, only confirmed the call I have felt on my life for loving this population- The widows and orphans that are so dear to God and hold my heart. I am pushing on doors to commit a year to serving in this way. So far they are opening. Any prayers towards this would be gratefully received. This is my heart song through this process: Surrender. Living Wide Awake: October 2010
http://livewideawake.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
October 3, 2010. We see from where we stand" -Haitian Proverb. In December of 2009 I started serving at the homeless shelter in Concord. It is a cold weather shelter for our community members who live in tents through the "warmer" months. I had gotten to know some of this population through a street church ministry- and I wanted to know their reality better- to be Awake to their "normal.". Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Living Wide Awake: Poverty... More than a word.
http://livewideawake.blogspot.com/2011/11/poverty-more-than-word.html
November 22, 2011. Poverty. More than a word. So far, it has challenged me about my faith. It shares how Jesus came to the world to save us from our sins, and reconcile us to God- Yes. But there's more- He came because he needed to reconcile a fallen world. He came because there were the poor, brokenhearted, widows, orphans, sick, etc. who needed healing. I, however, see it differently, I see the hurting around me and ask- How can there NOT be a God? When you entered the room, to the left was a twin matt...

Living Wide Awake: Focus
http://livewideawake.blogspot.com/2011/10/focus.html
October 23, 2011. Yet, coming from a faith that isn't based on works for salvation, but by grace, I now see that some of my efforts were "chasing after the wind.". I'm not saying we should be narrow minded, do one thing, and close our minds off to everything else, but I have battled despair here many times over the last 4 months as I look around me and constantly see so much need. I started to think "Am I doing enough? Or even "There's so much more to be done, does my small piece make a difference? As al...

Living Wide Awake: Her smile is sneaking out... and it's beautiful.
http://livewideawake.blogspot.com/2011/10/her-smile-is-sneaking-out-and-its.html
October 29, 2011. Her smile is sneaking out. and it's beautiful. The next ABC woman I am going to share with you about, is not a woman who made an impression on me right away- yet now that she has, her impression will last my lifetime. She is around 40 years old, and she lives with her elderly mother in a relatively large home for her village neighborhood. At first glance, one might question- "is she truly a vulnerable woman? She grew up in the neighborhood area of our shop. She was abandoned by her ...

Living Wide Awake: August 2011
http://livewideawake.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
August 26, 2011. Well, amazingly enough- the ways of Rwanda are becoming my "normal." :). When I first came to Rwanda, everything was new, everything was powerful- I got the rush that comes when you leave your comfort zone, and take a risk. There was some healthy fear, uncertainty, awe, and I clung to God like never before. In America, we are given so many opportunities and resources. For this, I am thankful, but also realize that we should have much expected of us, as we can afford to sacrifice. Same as...

Living Wide Awake: April 2011
http://livewideawake.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
April 28, 2011. One way ticket to Rwanda. June 30th. Below is a letter highlighting the next steps in my life. Dear Friends and Family,. In thinking about putting together this letter, I thought of you all- the people who would receive it: my family, my friends, who have walked life with me and made an impact in my life at some point over the past 30 years. I am so grateful to each one of you. In February, 2011, I traveled with my church, Grace Capital to Haiti on a mission trip. God confirmed for me...

Living Wide Awake: "in their distress..."
http://livewideawake.blogspot.com/2011/09/in-their-distress.html
September 19, 2011. In their distress.". The past few weeks have gone quickly by as my "normal" continues. Now, I don't want to connect "normal" to apathy, or boredom. Life has been anything but that- yet, can I admit on here, my "normal" is getting wearying? There is a large population of our world growing up in a culture where to survive, they must lie, steal, and cheat. Children regularly run up to me and shout "Give me money! It's hard to drive into the villages to visit the women, and have children ...
