STRANGER IN BANGKOK | A blog about foreigner bringing up his family in Bangkok: A Songkran in Singapore without water: Is there any point?
http://strangerinbangkok.blogspot.com/2014/03/a-songkran-without-water-is-there-any.html
Wednesday, March 26, 2014. A Songkran in Singapore without water: Is there any point? The word "Songkran" has recently stirred up quite a bit of controversy. Though I haven't been following developments very closely, I feel that my position makes it appropriate to give my view on this matter. Firstly, what is Songkran? This controversy first caught my eye when I read an article. Is this going to happen? If I can give my 2 cents worth to the organising committee, I feel that all backdrops and information ...

Saturday, July 11, 2015. Traditional Hong Kong Wanton Noodle in Bangkok: Gokfayuen 菊花园面家. Update March 24 2016:. Half a year after my first visit to Gokfayuen, the texture of their house-made noodles (initially the Achilles' heel) has improved beyond recognition. The soup and wanton are still fantastic, and the char siew still smokily tasty. Look out for this sign. Then this simple shopfront. I could have this every other day. Don't forget to look up as you enter the shop. Charsiu aka Roast Pork. I perso...

STRANGER IN BANGKOK | A blog about foreigner bringing up his family in Bangkok: The Nicest Taxi Driver in Bangkok
http://strangerinbangkok.blogspot.com/2013/05/heart-warming-labour-day-2013-in-bangkok.html
Thursday, May 2, 2013. The Nicest Taxi Driver in Bangkok. I have had my fair share of frustrations with taxi drivers over the last few years, particularly when I try to get home from the city because I don't look Caucasian enough, but yesterday, on Labour Day 2013, my heart was completely melted by a customer-choosing cab driver whom I will now identify as Khun Longan. My family and I were waiting for the taxi under the scorching sun outside Paradise Park. Barely a minute later, a cab stopped at the taxi...

STRANGER IN BANGKOK | A blog about foreigner bringing up his family in Bangkok: Random Thoughts on International School Education Part 1: The Beauty of Performances
http://strangerinbangkok.blogspot.com/2015/07/international-school-beauty-of-performances.html
Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Random Thoughts on International School Education Part 1: The Beauty of Performances. Since my piece on how we chose my son's school. If you had followed my thought process when I chose the school, you will realize that I do not have the "Tiger Mum" spirit. At this stage of my children's life, it's more important that the student-teacher ratio is good (16 to 3 ratio for nursery level at Noah's school), the teachers have a genuine love for little children and the school provides...

STRANGER IN BANGKOK | A blog about foreigner bringing up his family in Bangkok: Queue and Queue at After You
http://strangerinbangkok.blogspot.com/2011/05/queue-and-queue-at-after-you.html
Wednesday, May 18, 2011. Queue and Queue at After You. My wife is here in Bangkok (hopefully for the long haul), and that means I no longer dread lonely mealtimes. In fact, I found sufficient motivation to look for new interesting places to experience different tastes now that I can order more food at one go. Or posting pictures of its scrumptious treats on Facebook. Finally, with her arrival, Li Li gave me enough energy to try out the branch at Paragon after church last Sunday. 1 Take pictures please!

http://strangerinbangkok.blogspot.com/2015/08/to-market-to-market-bangkok-market.html
Wednesday, August 12, 2015. To Market, To Market. Bangkok Market. When fellow Dad blogger David told me about this blog train, I felt it would be a refreshing change to bring interested readers from Singapore to Bangkok, but if you are here expecting to read about famous markets like Chatuchak Weekend Market or the Rodfai Night Market, prepare to be disappointed, because I will only be bringing you for a brief walk at the wet market near my apartment. Temporary stalls selling alms for monks. My market al...

Nestled 1km into Sukhumvit 101/1, Casa Pasta IS the best-kept secret in Bangkok. As I have said in previous. Posts, it's incredible how many excellent dining establishments are popping up at my doorstep, and if you like Italian food (like me), this should be a restaurant you shouldn't miss, no matter where you are located in this metropolis. The atmosphere is spot-on.

http://strangerinbangkok.blogspot.com/2014/08/sharing-experience-of-choosing.html
Thursday, August 28, 2014. Sharing the experience of choosing an International School for my child in Bangkok. Throughout the entire research process for Noah's school, my wife was the one doing all the work. I only made visits to a selected few and took part in final discussions before making the decision together. This piece represents my personal view only, sharing my after-thoughts after the whole exercise. The closest to our house, which would make the most sense for us if it proved to be fitting to...

http://strangerinbangkok.blogspot.com/2014/05/my-first-michelin-star-experience-tim.html
Friday, May 23, 2014. My First 'Michelin Star' Experience: Tim Ho Wan Westgate Singapore. Tim Ho Wan @ Westgate. My gourmet trail so far during this trip in Singapore hasn't been very fortunate. I made it a point to have the best Hokkien Prawn Mee in Singapore, took the trouble to make 3 separate trips to have them but all ended in disappointment. But heck, let's just focus on the good parts ya? Congee with century egg. Steamed rice with chicken and chinese sausage. This fried carrot cake was, for me at ...
