Wednesday, 14 September 2011. Lancs: Grey Phalarope's, Gannet - 14th Sept 2011. A single Common Tern, 2 Dunlin and 1 Green Sandpiper were the meagre rewards from three hours on the local patch, Brockholes NR LWT, during the morning. Late morning, and a call from Cllr. John F. Wright saw me heading for the Lancs coast and specifically Fairhaven Lake, Lytham St. Annes where a Grey Phalarope had been present for a couple of days, and which was a "photographers dream" according to Cllr. Wright. Above and bel...

Tuesday, 12 July 2011. Temmincks Stint, Orkney, Scotland - 9th July 2011. Last reported on 27th June to the best of my knowledge, a check of 'The Shunan' on the Orkney mainland mid-evening on 9th July revealed the bird to still be present, giving distant views, loosely associating with six Dunlin. We could not find the bird on two subsequent checks of the site over the following two days. I don't think it has been reported since. Orca's - Orkney, Scotland - 8th July 2011. Monday, 4 July 2011. Wednesday, 25 January 2012. Lancs: 25th Jan 2012. I headed back via Eagland Hill where a flock of c30 Corn Bunting came up from stubble, perching nicely in a roadside Hawthorn. Nothing of note was seen in the Fishmoor Res Gull roost. Above: Black Redstart - KnottEnd. Below: Corn Buntings - Eagland Hill. Monday, 4 May 2015. Cyprus - April 2015. This blog is very much in need of an update, postings to Facebook seem to be occupying too much time! Photos here are of a visit to Cyprus - April 22-28, 2015. High spots were good views of Red-footed Falcons, Montagu's Harriers, and Rollers, with much more limited ones of Little Bittern and Little Crake. Some of the 16 Red-footed Falcons at Anarita. Montagu's Harriers (female and male) hunting near Anarita. Little Bittern at Ezousas. Little Crake at Ezousas.

My personal birding blog. Sunday, 22 June 2014. Breeding Kestrels, Burnley, June 2014. As last year, the Kestrels returned to breed in Burnley, raising five. Chicks, all fledging within five days of each other and a full six weeks. Earlier than last year. Although i did wonder if theyd return, with a. Jackdaw seemingly, occupying the nest site in late March. Its great. To see them doing so well, especially with the large declines nationally. Of these birds, perhaps an urban residence is the way to go!

Sunday, 15 July 2012. A Montagu's Harrier at Champion Moor, Lancashire. July 12-15, 2012:. On one occasion it perched on a broken wall and spent much time preening but most views were when in flight. It had a large area of black towards the wing tips, the arrangement of its primary wing feathers was typical (visible in the top photo), and it had a long tail and a sleek appearance. Unfortunately the bird was usually quite distant making detailed photographs difficult. Posted by Michael Foley. My NATURAL H...
